I see on e-bay there's 1 disk brake setup for a 44 MH?? Did any come w/disks? If so what do I need to be looking for? I am gettin tired of letting the loader do my stopping for me. It's a long story and I come off stupid in it but my cross shaft is bent and the cast is broke around 1 mount hole for the shoe assembly. I ain't sure I can ever get them back together right. Thanks in advance for any input. Fred

The disk break setup was made for some 44's that had a hand clutch/livepower. Not sure if it would be worth converting.

Hi Fred, I would fix what you have. Those shoe
brakes worked just fine when in shape. You would
need to switch the whole rear hsg to get the disc
set up. Chuck

Thanks for the comebacks, guys. Yeah, I figured it was beyond a conversion but had never heard of disks on a 44. I have a factory manual for a 53 or 54 and it doesn't list disks. I was picking at some of the hardest drifted snow I've ever seen about 7yrs ago w/chains on and kicked the right brake pedal w/way to much wheel speed/throttle and sheared all the bolts off the mount plate, broke the cast around 2 or 3 bolt holes and bent the cross shaft. I can't tell what else is tweaked but it doesn't respond to the book procedure for installing. I remember when I finally got to the road I had burnt 7 gal of gas and spent more than 5 hours at it. The left pedal will not come back up w/out reaching down and tugging it back. You can't push it hard enough to get any brake at all. The disks must have been more on the Super 44'then? Are the 3 digit Massey's disk? Thanks again. Fred

The disk brakes were only used with the live PTO option on the 44, 44Special and 444. There should be a lot of brake parts out there. Most of these models had drum brakes.

I agree with DWF. There are internal parts which must be replaced to convert from drums to disks and live power.

Yep. Thanks for the info guys. I wasn't familiar with live pto tractors so I had never seen disks on a 44. Did do a little searching tho and never found a pic. I need to pull the darn things off come spring and see just how bad I screwed up the housing and the rest of the system. She ain't getting brakes this year, she's got work to do. What I wouldn't give(other than $) for power steer or a cab! Yard is already catching some of that white fluffy stuff again. Fred
