Maxxum 5230

I am looking at a Case IH Maxxum 5230 partial power shift. The tractor is four wheel drive and is a 1995 with 3000 hours on it. I have always had new Holland tractors so I have to say I know absolutely nothing about Maxxum tractors. This tractor would be replacing a New Holland 7740. Are the Maxxum 5230"s a good tractor? Are the partial power shift a good transmission?
Thank you

I'll agree w/495 bullet proof, mine rolled 10,000 hrs. this summer, still going, 3000 seems like low hrs. but possible, the park brake is the week point most manufactures done away w/this designe in the 40's CIH brings it back in 90's (designe engineers have to produce)

My only comment is that parts are getting hard to find for these tractors already... Some of the hydraulic parts are almost impossible to get unless you can find used... and unlike the transmission (which was used in the some of the McCormick tractors) the hydraulic system is unique to these machines... and they are known for hydraulic compenstor cracking internally...

Motor and transsion are bullet proof just about...

Having said that, i'd still buy another one.

The 92 I bought showed 5500. When I got it home and was chasing some gremlins I discover the instrument panel and hour meter had been replaced. It had nearly double the hours. Of course the dealer said TO BAD when confronted.
So if you haven't purchased it check its history thoroughly.
