metal identification methods

There are a few methods used to determine metal content, one of the easiest is to look on the blue print down in the right hand corner...it'll tell you what its made of, right to the right of material. Then theres sending it to a lab and have them analyze it. But, the best old metal worker/welder's method is to spark test it on a bench grinding wheel. I'm not gonna go through a bunch of it but, you'll learn about buds, sprigs, bursts and such. Now, I'd like to ask T-40 (while he's learning)to tell us (without anyone getting mad or growling) what the orange sparks that follow the grinding wheel represent. Appreciate you lookin it up. ohfred

You're a day late and a dollar short, as the saying goes. This whole subject started a debate that was pretty much ended. No need to bring it up again. Dave
