MF 135 lift

Hello I have a Mf 135 its diesel with the three speed with hi & lo trans. The question I have is how to get the 3pt lift to work right? When I lift the handle to raise the lift nothing happens till you get about 3" from the top. Then it goes all the way up if you push it down then it wants to fall all the way down. Tried to dig my potatos with a middle buster but it was either all the way down or riding on top of the row. Is this normal? The other three tractors I have used start to lift as soon as you start to move the handle then stop raising when you stop . This tractor has two handles one round head one kinda square. This is the first MF tractor I have owned I love it except for this problem. Thanks.

the two handles are for two different uses. one is for position control of implements primarily used above ground. the other is for draft control. used for implements for in soil applications such as a plow. on the 135 at home, the small round knob is pulled all the way up. its on the outside or closest to the fender. the one closest to the operator is the square headed knob. this one is for position control. it sounds to me like you are using the draft control to try and control position. it would perform as you have described, up or down. nothing in between. ours is a 135 gas three cylinder. hope this helps you a bit.

I'd agree with that. Put the outer control all the way back and the inner control should control the height of the 3pt. right where you want it. Dave

both these answers are correct but a general rule is above ground use position below ground use draft. To use the draft control correctly set the position to the height you want the implement to lift to when out of the ground and find the neutral position on the draft quadrant , your middlebuster should then help the traction of the tractor by transferring weight to the rear wheels . In the float or neutral position(about2/3the way up) if you want more depth move the lever very slightly forward or if it is too deep pull it back slightly the tractor will then maintain the depth then set your depth stop so the lever goes to the same place every time you drop the implement.Note the tractor really needs to be moving to set this depth and to feel the draft system working
