MF 135 Mower capability

Will a MF 135 gas tractor pull and spin an 8ft agri-cutter mower. I mow on nearly level ground in pasture type grass? Should I look for a smaller mower?

my buddy pulls a 6ft with his diesel 135 and does good, but diesels have more power than gas motor.

depends on what you will be cutting and how low to ground you want it cut.

in heavy thick tall grass that you want cut low, 5 ft may be all you want.

remember you can pick up cutter and cut grass higher, as a 6ft will cut tractor tracks out and 5 ft will not.

just a thought!

The diesel does not have significantly more power than the gas. They have the same power ratings.

Width is adjustable so that a 5' mower might cut out narrowed tire tracks. Last I looked 6 or 7' mowers depending on type were rated at 35 HP. Of course since the MF-135 (deluxe) PTO horsepower is just 35 hp, there needs to be some power left to move the tractor and mower after spinning the more.

The general rule of thumb is about 5 pto hp per foot. I would say that your MF135 would handle a 7 foot max. Watch the weight of the mower .if it is three point mounted. You can have steering problems( like lack of steering) with a heavy mower when you pick it up.

I know of a man that pulls a 15 foot batwing with a diesel 135 on fields grazed by cattle! It won"t handle grass very high, of course, but it knocks down the weeds. Don"t ask me why.
I have pulled a 7 footer with a 245 diesel but it won"t take much grass. As others have said, a 6 footer will normally cut out the tracks.
