MF 135 tach/speedo cable

I have US version MF 135 but I inadvertently bought a tach/speedometer on ebay that is in kph instead of mph. (It wasn't a very clear picture and I wasn't sure what I was looking at). I would like to keep it instead of going through the hassle of returning it (if possible). I have been looking at the tach cables and one is for the kph and the other is for mph, so my question is, if I buy the cable for the kph, will it work with my tractor? Thanks, Matt

The only reason it might be different would be if the tach has different threads for the cable or is from a different manufacturer. If everything was the same it should work. Perhaps a dealer might have an explanation of the differences. I've also heard that some UK tractors tachs turn the opposite direction. Dave

You may have to learn to make the coversion that 1.6 kph equals each 1 mph. So 16 kph = 10 mph. 8 kph = 4 mph.

There were different cables for Perkins gas, diesel and Continental gas engines and I think the Perkins may have run the opposite direction. The tach on a Perkings comes off a fitting on the engine blocks, the drive on a Continental gas comes off a reversing gear on the back of the generator.

Changing the cable won't change the speed, its just a flexible cable. I've never found a gear box to fit an alternator like the one that fits the generator.

Other than threads to attach a tach cable is just a turning cable. X turns per minute = y on the gage.
