MF 35 oil change

Hi,

We have recently purchased a farm that came with a MF 35. We have been looking it over and discovered that the oil is very low.
Unfortunately, we did not receive any kind of information about the tractor and we do not know how much oil it will take in an oil change.

We are also wandering how often you do oil changes.

Any help in regards to this would be greatly appreciated.

We have a '63 MF35 gas (continental z134?) that takes 6 quarts.
As far as frequency, I do mine twice a year, but I do not use the
tractor all day every day as some do.

Is there any difference between the amount of oil in a gas compared to a diesel?

My book says 6 quarts and to change oil semi-monthly or every 100 hours and the oil filter ever other oil change. The book also recommends a high quality API-DG type detergent oil. I use Rotella T 15w40 Heavy Duty. I don't change often due to lack of use. Also, the book points out that the oil will become discolored and black in a short period of time and not to change oil due to that, it's just natural with a detergent oil. I did notice that when I first changed mine and panicked a little but then I read the book a little closer.

By the way, I meant to tell you, my book is for the diesel and my 35 is a Perkins 3 cylinder diesel.

I have a gas 35 and I wired an hour meter to measure engine run time since the tack does not count time any longer. Change mine every forty to fifty hours run time. Depends on summer (40 hours) or winter (50 hours). Oil and filters are still cheaper than an engine rebuild...

The Perkins 3 cylinder diesel also takes 6 quarts with filter.

Be absolutely certain that all of the needed parts are in the filter canister. If any are missing you may as well leave the filter out as it will be non functional. It is common for some or all of the needed parts to be missing.

If yours are, get a $20.00 adapter to use the later spin on filter as the needed small parts for the canister filter are no longer available.
