MF 35x horsepower?

Hi

I'm sure that this question was made several times on this forum, but I really doesn't find it on the searchig option.

I have a 1964, Perkins 3 cil. diesel, MF 35x.

Some people tell me that this tractor engine has 35 HP, others 38 HP, others 40 HP, others 42 and finally 44.5 HP. What a confusion!!

I saw in external_link that the MF 35 has 37.4 Hp on PTO, but how many Hp has the engine?

Sorry for my poor english.

Thanks and cheers

The are a whole bunch of horsepower definitions for a tractor. There is the engine horsepower, the pto horsepower and the drawbar horsepower. There several different types of engine horsepower but this discussion lets just consider the shaft poewer supplied at the input shaft of the engine and call that brake horsepower of th engine. The pto horsepower is the power delivered to the pto and is the brake horsepower of the engine minus the losses in the gearing and bearings to the pto shaft. Finally there is the drawbar horsepower which is the power that the tractor develops at the drive wheels where thwy aare touching the ground. Its the engine power minus the driveline losses and the wheel slippage losses.
