I am getting mentally ready to rebuild the brakes in my mf40. (i have to wait till after the bushhog season i believe) But i have been doing some research, and am a little concerned about one thing. Mt manual calls for a specific mf tool to set the carrier bearing preload, if i don't change that bearing, can i just change the brakes and bolt it back up knowing that nothing should have changed? It seems as though finding that tool might be near to impossible, plus i have a hard time believing that some of the non-dealership garages would still have that tool, although they will still rebuild brakes.
Real quick too, one side when i press the brake down if going slow the tire immediately locks, if going faster i hear a terrible grinding noise, the other side won't do anything if going ahead, but will grind if going astern. I imagine the internals are completely toast, i just hope that the axles are okay. Anyone had symptoms like these?
