MF 40 MF135 Injector pump/ bleeding problem

hey all,
i have a problem with my MF40 tractor (same as a MF135). it has the perkins AD3152 engine. the problem is that we can't get it running again after changing a bad fuel filter and fuel lift pump. i have spun the engine, and i get a stream of fuel at the lower bleed port on the CAV lucas injector pump, and we get a steady stream of fuel there. but when you take the top screw out, you can't ever get any fuel out of the top bleeder port on the pump, no matter how long you spin the engine or pump up the primer lever. we have cracked and even pulled the injector lines loose at the injector and spun the engine. we get some bubbling at the injectors intermittently. but, what i wonder is if that we aren't getting any fuel at all out of the top bleeder on the injector pump, could the injector pump simply be on its last legs, or is it possible that we got the wrong lift pump? it puts a fairly good stream out the lower bleeder on the pump when you spin the engine, which makes me think that the pump is correct, and that the injector pump is not working right. anyone have any thoughts?
thanks

Most cav pumps are a pain to get bled out. Ive spent over an hour before, I finally got a stream of fuel out of it. It just takes time

Hello
The lift pump may not give the correct pressure, even it bleeds thru the lower outlet. Be aware of the strainer at the end of injector pump. With full tank, mine will be leaking a light "pee" due to gravity only. Good luck.

thanks for the info. i didnt know there was a strainer on the pump itself. i know about the one inside the fuel tank, and we have cleaned that one. is the strainer in the pump at the very end, behind where the fuel line goes in?
thanks

I worked on these for 13 years when working for the local council, secret is, Keep pumping that lift pump until it streams from both top and bottom bleeders, it takes time and patience and remember this phrase "it aint bled propper until you got diesel dripping from both elbows". Dont totally take the injector pipes off either end, you can easily get dirt in the pipe and your injectors will block or dribble, making plenty blue smoke on startup.
