MF 65 brakes

i'm hoping someone can help me with a brake problem i'm having. all of a sudden i lost all braking ability. i discovered that the pull rods that go directly into the axle housing snapped. it's the rod that is U shaped at the end and has a pin going through it which attaches to something else in the housing. i need to replace the rod but for the life of me i cannot get the pin out because there is not enough room inside the axel housing to pull it out. i've tried pushing the linkage to one side to make room for the pin but no such luck. how can i get it out and how can i get a new one back in (i've lost my MF manual so couldn't consult it). thanks.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I am not sure it is possible to replace the yoke rod without removing the axle housing. There is plenty of room for the replacement once the housing is off the tractor though.

I replaced mine without pulling apart. It was very difficult. I cut out the old one with a sawzall. It was so difficult that my brain has shut down the ability to recall just how I did it. LOL. Good luck.

Eric it IS possible to replace the brake rod without removing the axle housing....it all depends who has refitted the axle before. If the pin through the brake rod and actuator is fitted with the head towards the differential you can do the job without removing the axle casing....I have done it many times....Best regards....Geoff

thanks guys. i"ll try the sawzall first, then i might try a torch after that. if all else fails i"ll pull the axle. i think geoff is right that if the pin where inserted the other way, i could easily get it out. thanks for all your advice.

i wanted to give folks an update on the brake situation. i tried w/o success to cut the linkage with a sawzall. so i had a friend cut it off with a torch. i'm waiting for the parts to put it back together but this time i'm going to replace the pin in the opposite direction so i hopefully don't ever have to deal with this problem again. thanks again for your input.
