I have a question, for anyone who can help me, A MF model 3 baler underneath where the bales come out there are 2 curved spear looking parts that go back and forth as the bales are made one of them broke what part is it? I belive its the needle but im not sure,Is it easy to purchase? If it helps, the twine runs thru the tip, thank everyone in advance.

One other thing - you'd better figure out what caused the needle to break, or it will break a new one just as quick as an old one.

Hello,
As Jerry has said it is absolutely essential that try and find the cause of the needle failure. They do break occasionally of their own accord but it is more likely that you have picked up a log or something. The first step is to clear out the bale chamber and cut the cords.
That might reveal the cause. Check the operation of the needle yoke. This is the 'U' shaped tube that the needles are mounted on. There will be a disc and brake pads that prevent the yoke falling and the needles entering the chamber at the wrong time. Make sure that pads are not loose or worn out. Check the operation of the plunger 'dog'. This is a stop that engages to block the plunger if the needles are in the chamber as the plunger travels towards them.
If everything appears to be OK, turn the baler over by hand and trip the knotters. The correct timing is for the needle tips to enter the chamber when the projections on the plunger have passed by about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. The edge of the needle should rub lightly against the knotter frame and when cord is present lay it into the knotch in the twine disc.
Non-genuine needles may be available but their quality is questionable. As the knotting process takes something in the region of half a second to complete and if you are in any doubt have your MF agent or someone familiar with it to set it up.
