MF40 Power Steering Solution

Had a problem that when I turned my steering wheel towards the right, neither steering cylinder would not move, if I turned the steering wheel to the left one cylinder would retract and the opposite one would extend as it should.

Switching the lines over I knew the cylinders were working properly, the issue being no movement when I turned steering wheel towards the right.

I solved my problem by adjusting the control valve located on the side of the steering wheel. By adjusting the linkage I found that both my cylinders now moved if I turned the steering wheel towards the right, but now they no longer moved if I turned steering wheel towards the left.

After playing around with it for awhile I finally have both cylinders moving as they should when the steering wheel is turned in either direction.

Fair warning, it can be very frustrating to adjust, as turning it half a turn extra to much can stop one side or the other from working again. The movement that it travels up and down is minimal, only around 1-2cm when you turn the steering wheel.

I have attached photos to give an idea.

Couldn't have done it without ptfarmer & you, it was the advice that you two gave that allowed me to work out my problem.

My Next job is working out why my brakes have a booster. :?

All the best

I has a slight leak from the top of the Power Steering Control Valve. So thought while I had it all apart I would see if I could fix it.

As per the photos attached. I undid the two small bolts on the top of the unit, then just lifted the inside out, while twisting a bit as well. It came out fairly easy, just popped the O-ring off, put a new one on & put it all back together.

I made sure that I tightened the swivel that comes off the steering to start with and just hooked it all back together, power steering worked like a charm and best of all no leaks in my system anymore.
