MF65 no hydrualic pressure

I have a 1959 MF65 G176 engine. The 3pt hitch works fine. (it lifted round hay bales fine) The remote hydrualics pump fluid but it won"t build any pressure in the cylinder i"m using for the wheeled disc. It will push the rod out on the cylinder when it"s not hooked up to anything but it won"t lift anything. No pressure. I"m clueless when it comes to hydrualics so any help would be appreciated. This is a photo of the hydraulic control before I took of the bent over tubing and put on the hydrualic hose that goes to the cylinder.

Forgot to mention the hydrualic/transmission fluid was low and I filled it up before I tried to use the hydrualics for the cylinder.

Hi Darrin,
First of all we need toknow what type of cylinder is fitted to your discs. Is it a double acting cylinder with two hoses which pushes and pulls under hydraulic power or a single acting where hydraulic power is applied in one direction and the weight of the machine pushes in the other. To operate a DA cylinder you will require two outlets coming from a control valve so that when one is under power the other will be the return.
Your valve looks to be SA with one pipe (bent over one) going to the implement and then you control oil direction on the control lever. If this lever can be locked (or tied) then it would supply oil to a DA valve block. It would need a return line back to the tractor. The usual point would be the oil filler plug next to the gear lever.
Can you post a photo of the cylinder on your discs and any hydraulic fittings on the rear of the tractor? We need to be sure that you have it connected correctly before looking for any problems in the tractor.
Cheers

it"s set up as a single acting. the hose is simply run from the valve by a 3/8" hose to a quick cplr and then on to the cylinder. it"s 2" with an 8" stroak. the hose is attached at the end opposite the shaft and a breither plug on the other end next to the shaft. tha tractor is not at the house so getting pictures is harder than trying to describe the setup. the hose is feeding fluid but it developes little to no pressure. when i pull the valve lever back (towards the rear of the tractor) it releases what little pressure there is because i can push the cylinder shaft in when i"ve done this. when i go forward with the lever (towards the front of the tractor) i cannot move the shaft in the cylinder becuase it"s under slight pressure. the lever does have the ability to be locked in the forward position. thanks for the help.

Just a guess here, thinking you may not have the position lever and/or draft levers for the three point in the proper position for constant pumping.

I think one lever on your valve in front of the seat will enable/disable three point action. Of course the other lever should run the remote.

Your owners manual will be a great help here. Everyone has an owners manual for their tractor don't they ? If not, it probably would be a wise investment.

You might need to add fluid to your system. Also you might need to purge air out of your line. Air can build pressure but it is compressable.

good news and bad news. the lever on the left is in the locked position that disables the external hydraulics. it won"t move and i don"t know why so i knocked out the roll pin and depressed the shaft going into the valve myself and the remote hydraulics now work. the bad news is i can"t figure out why the lever won"t go forward or backwards so that i don"t have to manually depress and pull out the shaft. now the 3pt hitch won"t work unless i figure out how to get the shaft going into the valve pulled back out instead of pushed in like it is now. the pivot point on the lever has a hole all the way through to the other side. it seamed like there was nothing in it but that doesn"t make sense. maybe there"s a roll pin in it that i can"t see but that still doesn"t explain why the handls won"t budge. have any of you had this problem? any suggestions? thanks for your help.

Sounds like you are going to have to do some more disassembly to get the lever free. Take off the whole lever assembly if you need to. Can't help much more as my valve is different. You'll figure it out, I've got faith.

Hi Darrin I will try to to help you. I have the same tractor with the same hydraulic valve that you have.On the tractors hyd lever quadrant raise the levers all the way up into constant pumping then The left lever on that valve will work the lift arms and the right one the remote hydraulics. Mine is set up for dual action cylinders ( has two hoses ) but I believe there is a screw on that valve that will switch between single and dual action. If the quadrant is not in constant pumping the remotes will not work well at all. I hope this helps.

thank you. I"ve gotten the hydraulics to work now i"m trying to figure out why the left lever will not move. it"s frozen in place. i knocked out the roll pin and manually depressed the shaft into the valve and that got the external hydraulics to work. i can manually pull it back out and that will get the 3pt hitch to work. i need to figure out why the lever won"t move so if you have any inside information on that it would be greatly appreciated.

ok i got the lever off. there was a roll pin on the pivot point. now i see there is a ball inside the fork that is supposed to let you know when it"s in the locked out position. problem is the ball won"t budge. i screwed the handle out and i can see there is a spring inside the housing that the handle screws into but i can"t get it out. i can push on it with a screw drive from the top side and it gives a little bit so it still has some spring to it. the ball at the end of the spring that is inside the fork won"t budge. maybe it"s been in the locked position for so long it has frozen in place. that"s why it wouldn"t release when i tried to move the handle forward. there is a detent in the lobe the fork stradles and the ball is supposed to move up and down as it goes in and out of the detent but since it"s locked in the down postion you can"t move the handle forward when it"s installed back in place. do you think the stuck ball makes sense? I can"t find anything else that would release the ball so that it can move up or down so it must be rust. I think.

Good work ! Finding the problem can sometimes be the hardest part.

From your description I think rust is the culprit. Sounds to me that the factory which made the lever put the spring in the hole first, then the ball and lastly peened some metal at the edge of the hole so the ball would stay in the hole.

I would douse it good with your favorite penetrating juice, take a small punch and smack the ball in toward the spring. Sounds like you have a hole all the way through so you can work the ball both ways once you get it to move a little. Keep working it and more penetrating oil until you get all the rust cleaned out. The spring may be fragile from all the rust. Even if the spring breaks it can be replaced.

I knew you could do it, I had faith.

I got the ball busted loose. i"ve cleaned everything out and it appears it"s all working correctly now. thanks for following along on this pain in the rear situation over one stinking stuck steel ball. that"s murphy for you.
