MF65 whining noise

Our MF65 with multipower makes a whining noise when the clutch is released to the second stage. It is a continous noise whether the tractor is out of gear or in gear (stationary or moving) or if the MP is hi or low and follows the engine speed. Prior to the noise starting the MP was sporadic - sometime it worked, sometime not (or so it seemed). The noise seems to orginate near the seam between the transmission and differential housings. My guess is that it is the multipower clutch unit but was hoping someone that had a similar problem can confirm (or not) prior to breaking the tractor apart.

I do not belive it is your M/P there is really nothing that would cause that. let me qualify that.Does the M/P work? If you have a broken plate or disc but It sounds more like a bearing. but if you say it does it all the time. The M/P is toward the front of the trans. When does it stop, Where is the clutch. Think of the clutch as 2 units the top part of the peddle is the tractor drive. the second operates the pto and the lift pump.does it stop when the second stage is disengaged. or the first stage??? DO the lift arms go down? or are they stuck at the top? this would indicate you are hearing the relief valve.

I believe the M/P worked but there were a few times where I flipped it into hi and it didn't seem to do any thing. The noise persist on the top part of the peddle. It stops when the clutch pedal is pushed down until the second stage is engaged. Yes, the lift arms go down.

I do not quite understand . The noise stops when the second stage is down. Is that correct? If so your problem is in the pto/hyd area. A bearing that drives the pto/ hyd or the hyd pump itself. The pto shaft fits inside tranny shafts thus brgs. or the hyd pump itself.At this point there is really no way to narrow it down without taking it apart.

Your earlier reply defined the second stage as the one closest to the foot rest (or not when the clutch pedal is all the way out). There is no noise when the second stage is engaged which suggest that the problem is not in the pto/hydr. But I think you are correct - time to break it apart. Thanks for your replies.

same problem that I had. your pump is sucking air and at fast engine rpm you lose your pressure. remove top transmission cover and start the engine, the oil will become white wich means there is air in it. air is coming from the suction side of the pump and it takes only a small pinhole
