Miller Welder

I have a Miller 202. Very heavy wound and just generally heavy machine. It is set up for TIG and I also use it to stick weld when I need something bigger than my MIG. Anyone else have experience with this welder and what do you think about them?

Never heard of a Miller 202 stick/TIG welder. They have a CP202(constant potential) MIG welder. Goldstar 302's and Dimension 302's are excellent machines though. Is it 3 phase or an AC/DC single phase unit? Dave

Hi Dave and thanks. Is the CP202 an old welder? My welder is old and reminds me of the machines I welded on in the late 60's that were old then too. This welder has voltage control and high freq adjustment. With a stick it will almost lay its own bead even with low hi rod. Would Miller have a manual for this machine? Thanks again and appreciate your knowledge and input on this site. I truely enjoy learning and hearing from others who know what they are talking about. Not all do. Joe

Thanks for the compliment Joe. I try to help people but some don't want to hear it. The CP202 is MIG welder and won't burn stick. I think Miller might still make the CP202? Constant potential is the same as constant voltage(CV). A stick and TIG machine is constant current(CC). Most Miller TIG machines were very good units. The only machine they made with a high frequency that wasn't the greatest was a Dial-Arc HF. The Dial-Arc it self is a good machine just not the best for TIG, especially on AC. Miller stopped making them and came out with the Synchrowave 250 to replace them. The school I went to had a Dial-arc HF and the teacher was very experienced with TIG. The Dial-arc HF was bought to replace the old TIG machine that no one could figure out what was wrong with. It was a Lincoln Idealarc TIG 300 that was top of the line in it's day and the teacher would have preferred if it could have been fixed. On the Miller website, you can look up manuals for all of their machines. Maybe the list will show a 202 TIG welder? I never looked. Dave
