Mini truck craze part 2

From what i heard they will sell for $6-10,000. One proposal is for farm use and limited milage radius (like 20 miles). The state and insurance companies are at loss of what to do, licence and insurance wise. Based on current intrest and popularity they will sell like the VW beatle did.
2. Most farms and estates here as well as institutions have either cushman trucks or the atv "mule" and deere gator type vechils. But they are not road legal here
3. most say 50 plus miles per gallon I can see them being used a lot around a farm etc and short trips to town.
4. I would hate to be in one during a crash!!

My uncle has a diesel Kawasaki Mule and I have to admit, it is nice. He has the one with the front window, a roof, a winch, and soft doors for the winter. The dump bed on the back is nice too. Not bad for a small horse farm or someone that owns a larger property and likes to putter around on it. Don't they race these things now like dune buggies even??

I don't think you can equate them with the Volkswgen Beetles - or the French 2CVs. They don't meet the minimum US motor-vehicle requirements - and if they did - they'd cost a lot more money. In the US, we can't even get road-worthy diesel passenger cars and small trucks made in Europe - new or used. At least in Canada, many are legal if bought used from Europe.

The 50 MPG thing is kind of silly to - yeah putting around not doing much work - but not when worked hard or driven fast. I assume you're talking about the little Daihatsus (or howeever you spell it) that Toyota owns?

We used to have some good little utilitarian trucks available here - but no more because demand dropped. I still have my 85 Isuzu 4WD mini-pickup with the 2.2. diesel. It's probably the most all-around truck I've owned in my life. Gets into tight spots my big trucks won't and gets around 30 MPG no matter what I do, or how I drive it.

I have a polaris 425 ATV, I doubt it gets better then 15-20MPGs. I easily go threw a gallon of gas while pushing snow for 20 minutes. I think those Rangers, gators and ATVs are poorly made, as far as durability goes and longevity....No way would my ATV last 25K miles.
They should not be (and arent) street legal.
They are for trail riding, light farm work.

Properly equipped ,Polution Tested and approved,ATV's,UTV's and Golf Carts can be Licensed and used Street legal in Arizona and Colorado. I can't say for other States. Some of my crowd run UTV'S along with us ATV'ers on Trail Runs and they get worse Milage than the ATV'S. Can't quote my Milage with my 2007 Arctic Cat 500 but it must be less than 20 MPG. I also have a 2001 Polaris 500 Magnum and it gets less MPG than the Cat. MY wifes 2001 Polaris Trail Blazer 250 2 Cycle gets the best Milage of any I know. It is two wheel drive and light so that figures. We ride until we get tired[ Good excuse for over 70's Crowd} come Home ,fill the Tanks and every one with a Polaris, Honda, or "Kaw" puts in more Fuel than us "Catters",except if "Ma" is along with her Trail Blazer. Gives her some "Bragging Rights". We usally ride at least 60 Miles one way and back so no one has ever run out of Fuel on a full Tank when starting the trip. We all burn 91 Octane Shell and have no complaints except for cost.$2.98.9 at present. 81 Octane is $2.81.9 today.Later John

Japanes 'Kei' class has a 660 cc engine size limit and about 10ft length restriction- gets cheaper license, etc in Japan.
Daihatsu sold here with 800cc engine - used in Madison by street dept has municipal plate so may not be completely road legal. 3 wheelers could be imported as federal motorcycle class , state like Illinois would class as 'Truckster' and restrict interstate use while allowing in cities and count/state roads. ATV like Gator and having some farm use treated as 'implement of husbandry' in Wisconsin, same as tractor. Drunk with pulled license drove Yamaha with PTO and small trailer in town, cops took about an hour of checking before letting him go. Sister has weed sprayer on ATV- drives country road and into town some, others do the same during days in Iowa. RN

The mini trucks are road legal here in MS. I dont know what you have to do but my BIL has one with a legal tag and safety sticker, the works. Some people drive them to work and tool around town in them all the time.
They were selling for around 2,500 each but have gone up to around 3000.

The ones in my area are right hand drive and can't be licensed for road use.The farmers ranchers and construction people are buying the heck out of them.

I seen an electric version of a mini truck in the power plant. A contractor had brought the unit in and we all took turns wondering what it was and where they found it.
This mini truck eventually disappeared or at least went out for a paint job and didn't return.
Being all white it was the perfect billboard for all kinds of smart remarks, humour and artwork. The topics generally referred in a disparaging manner re. the pint sized truck, it's designers, it's drivers and it's owners.

I really can't see paying $3,000 to $6,000 for one of the mini trucks to tool around the farm when a 4WD smaller truck can be had for off road use for 1/3 to 1/2 of that amount. I have a real neat little
Isuzu 4WD pickup I paid $1500 for that will do a lot more than a mini truck.

They are handy and manuverable, as for mileage I checked what ares was getting around campus and it was below 30 mpg. Maybe running the thruway they will get 50 but I doubt it.
