I've been looking for a 5297 for over 5 years. I just got off the phone, it has gone to the scrap yard ))^)%$$^*(^&%$!$*($()$%)$))(G<.TY))^%)&()_^~~!!!!!!!!!

I feel the need to WHOOP UP on a scrap dealer.
If you don't hear from me again you will know why.

Did you figure out what scrapper got a hold of it see if its in one piece and go from there.

It is in several peices. I have looked for years for one. I passed on an Oliver 7800 over 15 years ago and I have regreted it every since. Most Moline collectors want a UDLX. Me, I want a 5297. I have followed several leads only to find they were rumors or had been scraped years ago. I have advertised here several times but never had any luck.

Roger,I thought of you immediately when I saw the 5297 MM mentioned.Thats sad that it went to the junk yard that quickly after all these years.

Have you ever thought of running a want ad in the High Plains Journal for a 5297 MM or 5555 Oliver?I know that HPJ ads are expensive but every ad I've ran there has gotten some response.Theres got to be a 5297 MM somewhere in wheat country as there were lots of good MM dealers around.

There used to be a 5555 Oliver and 7800 Oliver in my area.I believe theres still a 6 row Oliver corn head sitting on the farm that had the 7800.

I'm guessing that less than (1000) 5297's and 5555's were ever built and that very-very few exist today.

How long have you had your 168 MM?

Too bad you just dropped out of sight on me last winter, Roger. For a while, you were in touch, then no more response whatsoever, even after leaving several messages.

I had found a restorable Van Brunt drill for you, no more than 2 blocks from my house. I spotted it, after the foliage died down.

Is there a place to find total # built or the serial # range. I have a 5555 one of 3 I have seen the other 2 were salvage. I did not know that there was a MM version. Has any one ever seen a Oliver 555? I see parts listed but have not seen one.

There just couldnt been very many of each built.My brother thinks that there still is a 5555 Oliver about 30 miles NW of here.They used to be a MM and later a White dealer.There used to be a 5555 Oliver about 10 miles NW of me but its long gone.There once was a 7800 Oliver 6 miles SW of me and its gone too.Hes the one that still has the Oliver corn head.

Roger, is a Cockshutt 555 the same as a MM 5297? I saw a 555 on ironsearch.com that looks the same but I don't know if it is or not.

I looked at the 555 Cockshutt. It looks just like a Minneapolis Moline 5297. I would buy the 555 just to have it. I looked at the map and as usual it is way to far away. I think the price is right. looks like a fair ole machine. Just wish it was closer.
