My u302 burned last monday while mowing hay, it didn't seem to warp the sheet metal, fire was at gas tank, melted dash etc, just wondering it the engine, gears, etc will be salvageable, or is it only worth scrap price?

Depends on how hat it got is there still oil in the engine or did it get out enough to burn the seals up may be usable parts it will just really depend on how hot it got

Crap, hate to hear that. I would agree with clint, depends on how hot it got, but it should be salvagable.

If you really want to fix it, it can be fixed.
Depends on whether you are looking at it from strictly an economic standpoint or not.

I restored a 1954 ZB that was in a barn fire in 1963. (Well, actually I fixed it to run. It STILL looks like it was in a fire in 1963.) the tires had burned off, Front pedestal, radiator, hood and rims were junk, the rear-except for fenders-was pretty much salvagable. (Can hear a rough bearing on clutch shaft though.)

Like the other guys said, depends on the damage. I would at least take the side cover off the engine and check the bearings.
On mine the babbitt had begun to flow out of the bearings and the crank and pistons had turned blue.

And look in the transmission, especially the T/A housing since it was closest to the fire. There
