Gannett

I"m a Case guy but like the big engined MM"s also. Looking at a 670 and according to serial no. it is a 1965. Wondering what engine, horsepower, rated rpm, tranny, hydraulics, brakes they had. Strengths, weaknesses, etc. What price for a decent one (gas). Appreciate any info. or help.

They came with a 336 cubic inch engine. 62 drawbar and 73 p.t.o. horsepower. 1750 high idle r.p.m. It has a selective gear fixed ratio tranny that included partial range power shifting. 10 forward and 2 reverse. 1.6 to 17.2 mph. The most common hydraulic system is the Tel-O-Flo system. But they had some different ones on earlier models. The brakes are basic disc type. Price range low about $1500 and high around $3500 unrestored. More for one with new paint. Have not heard anything real bad with them. Normal problems with the ampli torc. Most are out of them when someone tries to sell one. All around good tractor. Myself I would try and find a M670 Super. Looks sharp.

Thank you very much for the info. The partial range power shift-does that mean that one could shift up and down between hi and lo ranges fairly freely without the grinding and double clutching I have to do on my Case's? Was ampli- torq and optional feature or on all of the 670's and if out will the tractor still work well without it? Don't recall seeing anything like that on the one I am looking at. What was the difference between a 670 and 670 Super? Good looking tractors and like that long stroke engine. Hope as durable as the similiar Case engines. Thanks much.

I have a '65 M670 and like it very much. The Ampli-torq is a planetary gear reducton on the input to the tranny that was optional. There will be a lever going into the front of the tranny on the right side if it is equipped with one. M-M recommends not using the low range until the tranny oil is warmed up. I normally use the clutch but I understand it is not necesary. The tranny in mine is sometimes hard to shift in direct and I need to put it in low to shift and then go back to direct. (It hangs in the gear it is currently in.)
A Super has hydrostatic steering instead of power assisted steering as the main difference.
