Model A heavy pulling characteristics?

I'm just getting acquainted with my A after many years of ownership. When I pull a very heavy load after fully enging the clutch it will just sit there and sometimes after a few seconds it will start pulling and sometimes not. Is this normal for an A?

Is the clutch engaging properly? Is it just the clutch slipping?

Sound like you adjusting some or you may some oil leaking and can make the clutck slipyour oil seal may need replace to

The clutch is supposed is lock-up when engaged, it's not a chainsaw centrifugal clutch.

I agree with john n myles. Either your clutch facings are "glazed" or oil soaked. My dads B done the same thing and couldn't pull a rake up a hill.

when you engage the clutch you should feel it snap in as well as hearing a distict "snap" when you release it.
