Hello everyone. I have a Model B fan shaft partially disassembled as shown in the photo. A this point the shop manual says to "pull tube assembly free of shaft assembly." That makes it sound like the tube and shaft should separate fairly easy, but so far it hasn't. Before I get carried away and break something I thought I would ask:
1. If you press on the front end of the shaft the spring is compressed and the back of the shaft with the bevel gear and bearing cone are pushed out a short distance from the back of the rear bearing housing. But there is the front bearing cone that is also on the shaft. Is that front bearing cone a tight enough fit on the shaft to require a hydraulic press to get them separated?
2. Or can you depress the front of the shaft just enough to get a puller on the bevel gear and rear bearing cone, and then once they are removed pull the shaft out from the front?
3. The manual says the front bearing housing can be removed from the tube with a "slight twisting and pulling motion." Is the rear bearing housing (next to governor) removed in the same manner?
Thanks.
Curtis
