Model B Serial Numbers

I have just bought a BN on steels. The serial number tag on the front righthand side of the crankcase is missing but there is an aluminium tag on the rear axle which has "PL-B 57435" stamped on it. Is it possible that this is the serial number. She has a DLTX10 carb and is styled which seems to put her in the 1939/41 era and the number 57435 could also fall within this window. Any ideas/info gratefully received.

a 57000 serial number would be a 1938 unstyled B.

To be 1939 or newer, you need a 60000+ serial number.

I'm sorry, but you'll never know.

The "PL"# you found is most likely the serial # for the Power Lift, and as the other poster stated, if it's styled, the tractor # has to be above #60000.

Many times the power lift number was recorded when the tractor was built. You might try Two-Cylinder and see if they can verify the BN tractor with your power lift number. About your only chance.

One way to "spot" a 39/40B is by the type of brakes.

The 39/40B has the unstyled type of brakes.

Another way is the oil test cock located one the left side of the main case under the flywheel.

Hope this helps a little; enjoy your BN.

If it is on the RH front corner, its a later 39. The early ones had the tag on the LH side in front of the flywheel, like the unstyled tractors. Is it a 4 speed or six speed? can you post a pic?
