moline gtbd

I would say it would be worth $1000-$1500 depending on location. They didn"t make very many GTBD"s but most of the parts are common to the more plentiful GBD"s. Another word of caution though, be prepared to put quite a bit of money into that engine. We are finishing up our UBED which has a 4 cylinder version of the GTBD engine and with having the injector pump rebuilt, having the crank turned, new pistons, boring cylinders, bearings, seals, gaskets, and so on we have well over $2000 in the engine alone. And that is with us doing all of the disassembly and reassembly ourselves. They are nice units when done.

I know of a nice rebuilt GTBD with an older paint job. It starts and runs good. Hes asking about $4750 for it I think. Its located in Oregon. I can get contact info if anyone is interested.

This diesel is a 425 right? where have you found oversize pistons, or did you bore then sleeve back to standard size? I have a Gvi 425 and to date have not found any O/S pistons for it.

My UBED has the 4-cylinder version of the 425, which is a 283 Diesel. The GTBD, GBD,and Gvi have the 425 Diesel. We bored it .125 over and installed new G-900 pistons from Welter's in Verona, Missouri (417) 498-6496. These pistons would bump the displacement up to 451 in your Gvi.

Albert,
I've done the same thing to our UBED that Tim did. It was the only option per Welter's suggestion as oversize 4-1/4" diesel pistons are not available. An 1/8" overbore was no problem with the UB cylinders and boy does it start nice now! I went through the injection system also so I'm guessing that has something to do with its new starting manners. I think Welters sold me different head gaskets for the larger bore so be sure to ask about those.

So G900 pistons will fit in an over bore 425, are the con rods from the Gvi the same size etc. or do you use g900 con rods as well? What does a new set of g900 pistons cost from your supplier? Do they come with rings? What about crank bearings etc? I got the last set of valve springs in the Agco parts system.

Yes, the block can handle the .125 overbore. We used the original UBED connecting rods. I can't remember what the pistons cost and I am deployed overseas right now and I can't check the receipt. I will be back in just over a week and can check then, or you can just call Welters. They will know what you are talking about, it is a fairly common upgrade. Welters also had the rings, but they were priced separately. The crank and rod bearings were purchased from Howard Enterprises in Iowa, but they don't sell to individuals, I bought them through my Dad's shop. I might be able to order you a set if you are interested.
