moline pullers help !!!!!

I pull a stock U302 LP wide front end with 16.9.34 on the back , weight 5750 with me in the seat , loaded to 6000. weights 18. in. behind axle, hitch at 20 in. high and 24 in behind center of axle ( big spinout ) 7000 class second gear 1200 lbs. at 18 in. behind rear axle , moved hitch to 20 in. high , 32 in. behind center of rear axle Went 180 ft. last 20 ft with the front floating, ( just touching the ground),, lots of power ( still spinout ) WHAT can I change !! tractors with less power, skinner tires don;t carry thier fronts go farther?????

move hitch point in to 18" from center axle or as close as you can and put some weight out front. What kinda of air pressure are you running?

Dieselbear Iam runing 6 lbs. air pressure, new long/short bar titian tires , by moving the hitch in to 18 in, it would keep the front on the ground and less grip to the rear tires making the problem worst. A longer draw bar puts more weight on the rear axle or I am missing somrthing here, I know the draw bar goes down some with the front going up but I was just touching the ground this should put the hole tractors weight on the rear???

Try some long bar/long bar tires, long/short dont work very good for pullin. I run 8.5 lbs air in 16.9 38s firestone 151s. Older harder road worn tires work better than new ones.

Are you spinning out like you say .Lets look at your rear rim width.Could be as simple as going as far as a wider rim width, running the same rear tire. Will help those tires to flaten out, giving you more traction to match that HP.Just a thought.

I think what diesebear means is move the hitch point 18" back from the center of the axle. Don't mistake this for you hitch hight which you should leave at 2o". By moving the draw bar in to 18 inches it will put more weight on the rear tires and help you hook up a little bit better. Just be sure you got some wheelie bars on it kuz it will for sure take you for a ride if you lifted the front end up with the drawbar 36" back from the center of the axle

This would be a good High School Physics problem!
I understand what you are saying, if the front wheels are barely touching the full weight of the tractor is on the rear wheels. The drawbar acts as a lever, the longer the draw bar, the easier it is to lift the front of the tractor. I am not sure about this, but it would seem to me the shorter the drawbar you would get more downward force from the sled. Many years ago we were clearing some land, pulling stumps. I was hooking on with a chain about 5-6 feet away from the stump and I would spin out and not dig down. My dad had me back up right next to the stump, drawbar touching the stump. Being that close, when I worked the clutch, the tractor would pull down hard and I did not spin out. Also, I would think getting more weight out on the front of the tractor would give you more downward force as long as the load was pulling down on the back end of the tractor.

thanks guys, I am going to try 18 in. behind rear axle and a little more air presure in tires (10 psi.) maybe 6 psi. lets the bars on the tires bent too much? go two 3rd. gear,. I have 16 in. rims, wuaconda jim is that like in Illinois.? I was raised in algonquin,,. thanks Bob

I think your biggest problem is the tires. I know you don't want to hear this, but new tires will not work as well as good old hard 1/2 worn down ones. Furthermore, I have tried long bar short bar and they are no comparison to a Firestone SAT or Field and Road.

Dan' I had 13.6.38 armstrong 23 degree on the tractor 90 % tread the only other tires I have had to compair with the 16.9.34 , the seat of your pants feel is that the 16.9's pull harder, but right now I think iam setting on my brains anyway . the results with the smaller tires were to spinout all the time never could get the front up DON"T LIKE GETTING BEAT BY J.D. B with 4000lbs. of weight hanging on the back!!!!! thanks bob
