Anyone here have a proven mosquito control pesticide mix to be used near homes and around barns?there are a lot of options but I’m looking for what works.is malathion something I can use
I have not seen a mosquito all this year. Our control has been lacking moisture. Not recommended!
 
At the attendant residences at the hydro site, they bought mosquito traps, that produce CO2. Mosquiotos are atracted to it, It took a little while, but it did get to the point they could use their outdoor areas.

When I was 14, I was driving the 64 Chevy half ton with the 6 banger engine.
Ran out of gas about a half mile from home.
Walked home and picked up a glass jug of gas I thought .
Went back and poured it in the truck.
Cranked it and drove home.
Smokes like a burning tar pit.
Later that day, my Dad came home and wanted to know where the jug of kerosene and Chlordane he had mixed up to spray for bugs.
I probably wiped out a bunch of skeeters that day.
 
With all the "Saving wetlands, dentention ponds, rain gardens", programs, I suspect we will see an upswing in their population, in the future.

I wouldn't think of saving wetlands as increasing the number or size. Detention ponds and rain gardens don't catch and hold water, they only slow the flow down and enhance absorption into the soil. Mosquitoes would have to breed and mature extremely rapidly in both of them to increase population.

Yeah, when I lived in central MN we could count on a fresh mosquito hatch after any big summer rain storm. Mosquito eggs need about a full week of standing water to hatch.
 
There is a propane unit for mosquito control. It uses a small flame to release CO2 to attract them and the they are eliminated. About 300 dollars or so. You can order them from Home Depot. Here’s a picture

Been using these in five gallon buckets this year. They have reduced the amount of skeeters but still have plenty yet...
You've got my attention. I understand how Richard G and MeanGene's chebbie trucks knock them out but I'd like you the explain how dunks and 5 gallon buckets work.
 
I think they have all died off and i dont want to reintroduce them like wolfs out west. LOL

Ok, so can I interest you in a box of chiggers? Unlike wolves and skeeters,you will never hear nor see them,regardless how many are around.
I don't ask a thing in return, it's simply good ol Southern hospitality. But if you insist, John and I both will take as many unseasonably warm days off your hands as you'd like to send. I see that it's sweltering 83f up there at 4pm.

That is very strange. The design engineers factor in climate, rainfall, drainage area, soils, etc.etc. when designing them, and then they have construction engineers overseeing construction, making sure that correct materials are used, etc. There would be no point to building them if they weren't done right. Where did you read about this?

Well, I am a retired engineer, and installed retention ponds since they were thought up, as part of engineered drainage systems, and have bid a lot of them. I installed some at Google, Facebook, Stanford Linear Accelerator, and the New Bay Bridge/ Yerba Buena Island/Coast Guard Station just to name-drop a few lol. They do by design catch and hold water for a limited time, with the intent of having as much as possible soak into the ground instead of running off, and trying to build them to hold a best-estimate ("factor in" AKA best estimate) of an average rainstorm's water volume- in a heavier than normal storm, it can run out the overflow drain. I ran into an interesting one in San Francisco, building a new soccer field at San Francisco State- who in their wisdom, did not want ANY water falling on the field soaking into the ground- I was told that that edict came from the City. I had to build the subgrade and field dead level, and install a complete pond liner membrane with hot-welded and smoke-tested joints, including through the drain system trenches across the field. Then had to build up the field with 100% pea gravel, again dead level. You should try to grade pea gravel with a motor grader to a 1/4" per 10 feet standard measured in any direction- I did it myself with an old-school laser on a 140H blade, no GPS
