Motion sensors

Looking into a motion detector for a driveway going back to a hay barn. We cant hear any drive up. Has anybody had any luck with this, looking at a Chamberlain motion sensor or a Ideal security wireless safety alert. Thanks for any input.

No experience but see them advertised and would have one if I had long driveway.

I do see one advertised in Harbor Freight . Don't recall the price but know it wasn't very expensive.

Sorry that I don't know anything about them but wanted you to know so maybe someone will know about this model.

I have two "Mighty Mule" ones at two different location, and they work great. Magnetic unit is buried in the drive way. Wireless to the house can be four hundred feet away. The peep peep sets the guard dogs off, so it is a win win. Haven't hook it up to a shot gun YET. lol

I have a bunker hill driveway detector hanging on the wall it was more trouble than it was worth. I would get one that I'd hard wired if had to do it again.

That Mighty Mule sounds pretty good. I've tried the cheapies that are wireless. They work great, I get everything that moves. Deer, Birds,Bushes that move in the wind and even a car now in then?

I have a Dakota Alert, good range and longevity. Been in service ten years continuesly. Available online.

I just recently installed the "skylink" from Amazon. Simple to set up, and works quite well. The basic system comes with just one sensor, but it will handle 4 sensors. I bought a 2nd sensor at the time of purchase, and I will be adding 2 more.

Range of motion detection is stated as being 40 feet, but trust me, it will detect motion quite a bit further out than 40 feet. Distance between the sensor and reciever is 800 feet. I haven't really tested that part of it yet.

About $50 for the main unit plus one extra sensor.

We have one of the buried mass sensor type driveway alarms and it has paid for its self many times over. Helps to know when the UPS or Fedex guy is at the gate. A word of warning on the ranges that are advertised for the wireless type. A "400 foot" range is based on a clear line of sight. No buildings or walls between the transmiter and receiver. If you have like a metal barn or the like between the two of them it might not work. There are more expensive alarms out there that have a half mile range. They are normally twice the price of the "400 foot" types.

I have the Skylink system also. Works well, almost too well. Even with the sensitivity set on the lowest it will pick up rabbits. I attached a small lengthy of wire to the antenna to help pick up the sensor that is about 600 feet away, works like a champ.

We installed the one called lord taylor that has 5 sensors about 5 years ago.I don't think any of them work anymore.It was supposed to be military grade with infared sensors for less false alarms.
About all we got was false alarms.The sun setting would set it off,also weeds,and I think spiders.Were looking for something better now.I don't care for those buried ones,people can drive around them and with todays plastic cars sometimes they don't work.

You could put a air hose across your driveway hooked up to a bell in your house. Grandparents did that for years

I have the chamberlain it has worked great for 5 years now. One unit will also handle 4 motion detectors.

I purchased a Harbor Frieght unit , It was not worth the trouble. To many false alarms , even the wind would set it off. You get what you pay for..

We have had a "DAKOTA ALERT" for 15 years. It
is great for cars and people, also Dogs, Fox, Coons. Rabbits and Squirrels don't set ours off.

They make Drive Alerts, if you just want to know when a car is coming in. It's a probe you bury alongside the drive, it's magnetic field senses big metal.

Or you can use an outdoor set of "eyes" like the garage doors have to stop from closing on something.

I was in the business for awhile and it's tough to get a true motion sensor to work well outdoors. Animals can cause falses, they get hypersensitive in the cold, less sensitive in the heat. But it's been a while and there may be new stuff out there now.

Coyotes killed mine but they are good watch dogs.
