i'm in northeast ohio looking to build an ih 263. i'm lookking to build a mod. stock motor. i looked over murphys motors and was impressed but it is 11 hrs away. i would like to stay away from the huge motor building shops because service and tech seem to go when they get big. i would say i'm looking to spend in the 3-6k range.thank you

Best advice is to pay special attention to the cyl head. Open em up on the exhaust side, and manifold. Combine engine parts are outhere so find ya 715 combine and get the mainfold and carb,fuel pump, distributor, and the governor off it, and youll have a good start to build off of. I had a 263 built up, and after is was said and done it was a pretty good, small ci engine up to about 3200 rpm. Estimated over 110 hp at 2640 rpm. Just alot of cyl head, carb governor and ign work to make it run consistantly. Or, get ya a complete 301 out of a combine, etc etc and then the fun begins. Hope this helps a little. Where are you located here in Ohio? I know a guy here in Ohio that is really good and so are his prices. He is swamped with work all the time so turn around can be a little slow but I would put him up against anybody out there. He can do a small job or build you a complete tractor. He has done work for the stock antiques up to the big boys on NTPA circuit. If you would like give me an e-mail or phone number and I will pass on his info to you. He is located about 60 miles south east of Akron. He has pulled and built pullers since the sixties.

I see you give info all the time to new pullers.I would like to know what the hick is the yellow snap on meters I see at the old time tractor speed pullers have around home.I was told it can tell the mph and distace from the seat of your tractor is this true?and where do you buy said giz mo?

Could be a speedometer, or a tach. I had an Actron digital multi meter, I think I got it at Sears. Had an option to use it as a tach, it was yellow and black. I see alot of pullers equiped with radar units, or planter units to measure speed, or have bought custom units calibrated to their setup. Dial em right into the sled speedometer and can be pretty accurate. When I ran something like that,,, like a tach or a speedometer, I felt it as a distraction to my driving style, so, I dont use em anymore. Always was looking at the speedometer or a tach, and I wasnt payin attention to what I needed to do,,, drive. Chad
