moving combines

I don't know if you can still do this or not.
Several years ago I moved a 105 J.D. and later a
7700 J.D. by pulling them backwards on the main
drive wheels. I put 2 steel beams under the machine and clamped them to the main axel housing.
The beams ran under the back axel and I lifted the back off the ground and hooked the beams to
the hitch on the grain truck. I pulled them from
Arizona to Texas down I-10 & I-20. Had to get
permits and only daytime. (of course no header).
(also remove the driveshafts)

What were you pulling them with? Do you want to pull some more?

I may be moving 5 old case combines shortly if I can close the deal on the land.

I have moved a Case 960 and Case 700 on their drive tries with the rear tries on the tail of low boy 10K trailer (car hauler).

The trailer was very light in front end so I had to go real slow (20 mph) but only went about 30 miles.

The DOT does not worry so much about wide loads, but they do not like you hit bridges with things that are too tall.

I made a hitch that clamped to the steering axle of the M2, and used a drag link connected to the steering cylinder mounting lugs. Disconnected the drive axles and pulled it 90 miles behind a tractor.

This was in the 1970's when I moved these machines. I pulled the 105JD with a chevy grain
truck. I pulled the 7700 with a 3 axel Peterbuilt
grain truck. If you pull the machines with the
drive tires on the ground, you don't have to worry
about overheight. And also the combine is no wider
tha some of the mobile homes on the road. If I
remember right I pulled them about 45-50 miles per hr. also put more air in drive tires.

Here's how I moved a 45. It was tall, but I just watched for anything low.

My Dad told me of custom harvesters in the 60's that used this method of moving them. Usually it was the Deere guys because they were so tall.
