Mower blade change

For the mowers with two swinging blades, such as 5' and 6' Howse, King Cutter, and Fred Cain, the large bolts holding the blades to the center disc/stumpjumper have a tab that fits into a slot similar to a keyway. But often, the bolt just spins instead of holding tight when attempting to remove the nut. Among this group of implement users, there must be several different methods that have been used to remove these bolts. Please post the method that worked for you. And did you reuse the old bolt?

that locking tab is to keep the nut on...doesnt keep bolt from turning...my Bronco brand shredder has a hole with a rubber plug on top deck so a helper can hold a socket and breaker bar on bolt while i use a impact below on nut...you may have to use a box end wrench or a big cresent on bolt head and a impact on nut...mite be easier [and safer] to flip shredder over so youre not laying under it...as far as reusing the nut and bolt...if theres no cracks or thread damage i re use mine with no problem...replace the lock tab tho.

I have not seen a bolt for the Bronco mower. The bolt I described is like the one pictured. The tab is supposed to keep the bolt from turning while the nut is tightened and loosened.

sorry about that...looks like a candidate for the blue tip wrench...or if you can get behind stump jumper mebbe tack weld head of stud to stump jumper.

Bus DriverMore times than not if the bolt is spinning it is time for a new one. Have changed a lot of knives on these mowers over the years and found the hot wrench saves time and busted knuckles.Nut with bolt and lock washer about $12-15 dollars.Best of luck.

Most of the time a Good Impact wrench will spin the nut right off. If not I agree with the "HOT WRENCH"
