Ive got an 05 JD 180 48 in deck,
It starting to get some hrs on it,
I wanna get something else besides a JD?
there's got to be as good or better mowers out there that your not paying for a name?
husky's are nice, cub cadet's are ok too.
what about poulan pro?
Or craftsman, or toro?
Ive seen snapper's...
they are kinda chincy looking.
but ok.
Like zero turn one's too.
fun to mow with.
but used to steering whel type steering.
DON'T WANNA FALL INTO THE JD THING AGAIN.AND FEEL LIKE THERE'S FEW OTHER CHOICE'S OUT THERE?
Plastic hood, front valance breaks easily,
Id even like a good cond IH 17 or 20 horse one with electric PTO.

Really curious why you have a JD in the first place if you dislike the brand so much. Even a low end garden tractor should be good for at least 10 years if properly used and maintained and the JD 180 looks like a pretty good machine. Things will break on anything if you run into something. Craftsman and Husky are basically the same thing except the Husky's usually have Kohler engines in them. Electric PTO's are expensive to replace if they quit working. A V-8 Massey would run a huge mower but you'd need a lawn as big as a sod farm.

Kirk, they all have plastic hoods and fenders now. Either stay away from obstacles or get a steel grille guard.

There's a reason John Deere is the only remaining full-line company that hasn't been bought and sold and reorganized several times. You are also paying a little extra for parts availability 20-30-40 years down the road.

Husqvarna has a higher-end line that's pretty good, and they make a couple of Sears' top-end models. Sears low-end stuff is MTD. Simplicity makes a good outfit and it is also sold under several Agco nameplates.

MTD owns Cub Cadet, and MTD makes most of the store-brand stuff for the farm stores.

I have a 2500 series Cub and have been very pleased with the tractor. I mow about 1 acre and also use it to snowblow my 1/4 mile long driveway.

The MTD design philosophy is light overall and it shows on the snowblower attachment. The mower and the tractor however show a more robust design with real bearings in the spindles and metal bushings with grease fittings all over. Cast iron transmission that can be serviced is a big plus.

You need to go to a dealer to get a good Cub tractor. Home Depot has light duty stuff that won't last as long.

hace been having good luck with the dixon line of mowers if interested have zero turns and tractor style, 1700.00 buys you the 46 inch unit

You haven"t said how much of a lawn you have to mow. It would give folks a little more info and a chance to offer better suggestions. If you have a large lawn you would need to spend more money and get away from the "Big Box" style of mowers. I"ve only looked at two of the box mowers and if I had to buy one it would be between the JD and Husquvarna (sp). If I didn"t want to spend the money for a new bigger unit I would good used. There are always low hour units if you spend the time and look.

see that's what i wanted was a husky 26 horse 54 inch deck.
I like the look of them and I know thier build good.

I bought a Cub Cadet LTX1045 in the middle of last summer and have been quite pleased with it. I mow about 1 acre with it, and it's more than enough to do the job.

One thing to consider if you like the idea of a zero turn, but would like a convential steering wheel, would be the Cub Cadet Iseries Zero turn tractors.

I liked the Idea when I got the 1045, but really couldn't justify it for my yard, as it's very open and I don't really need a ZTR.

I would also recommend against getting one from one of the box stores like Lowes, etc, and get it from an established Ag Dealer.

I'm not promoting John Deere but I do know that the dealers have to set up the tractors for the BOX stores and you take them there for service also. You may not be first in line. I am a Simplicity man myself. Still need to know how much he mows for good recommendations.

An acre and a half,
And sometime's 3 acre's. depend's on the person, or job.
Ive tried ZTR's, I like them , I just have to get used to them.
I think a ZTR would be really cool to have.
Ive seen the ZTR Dixon's, and the Husler's too.
I think the Hustler is overpriced.
Ive seen lawn Pride,
And I like them too.
I forget that a ZTR has more to It.
and In the long run it's more worth It.
so i think ill concentrate on a ZTR, and then see if there's some deal's out there which I know there are.
either Husky. or Land pride or even snapper in the heavier style.

I have both a Husqvarna lawn tractor and a Cub Cadet residential zero turn, and love both. I would definitely NOT reccommend a JD, as they have become very cheaply made, even when compared to new Cub Cadet lawn tractors.

LOL I mow about 4 acres and it takes me about hour 15 min......I burn about 2 gallons of gas. I'm mowing with an 48 8N Ford with a Woods 60" rear mount deck. I've got about 2400 in the tractor and deck plus use the tractor for other lite work here on the farm.

I wouldn't pay 10 cents for some of the crap they are making today. If I were in the market for a lawn tractor I'd be looking at Kubota. The rest are getting pretty light duty.
