multi-power

hello all i have heard that a multi-power system can be altered to eliminate the multi-power clutch and create a kind of standard tractor. anyone know about this or know a website for info thanks

my friend bought an old mf180 and it had a nice looking cap screwed over the multipower slot.

so he thought the tractor was made with a std trans with no multipower.

not so the mp was just out and someone did a good job covering up the slot.

i drove the old tractor some, it only had the low speeds and if i remember correctly, the trans would not hold the tractor back, otherwise it would free wheel going down a hill.

just a heads up, if you take it for a test drive. be sure the brakes are good before you depend on the trans holding you back.

good luck,

might be a fun ride with no trans holdback.

Look in the archives on here or wait for a response from one of the MF experts. When Multi-power works properly it is a great feature to have. There is a way to lock it in high but I think you have to split the tractor to do it. I've never had a problem with MP in my 65 UK 135.

MP low range uses a jaw type one way clutch, have never seen one fail. When in high jaw clutch is overrun, high range clutch pack is pulling load, is why engine braking only works in high and hill hold works also. I would not want a high clutch modified to only stay in high as main transmission is much more difficult to shift with MP left in high. There is a trick to shift 1100 series with less gear clash, push down clutch, shift MP to high for 1-2 seconds, then back to low. Transmission gears will slow down enough for much easier shifting. Used to do this on my 1150, shifted much better that way.

If you have any hills at all, I would not lock the multi power in low. My 165 is locked in High and the transmission is not difficult to shift.

I would not lock it in high...when I 1st got my 1130 I was trying to pull a tree out of a creek and was spinning...when I stopped to try to shift gears...could not shift...bent shift rod trying to shift due to pressure on chain from tree...finally wised up and put multipower in low and shifted no problem....shift low multipower does not "hold" tractor. Now whenever I have shifting issues I put in multipower low, then shift, then shift back to high and no problems. Reaver

The link to the repair is great and easy enough but this tractor also has ipto which works off of the auxz pump so i'm wondering if the fix is worthit because i will still have to fix what ever is wrong with that thanks for advice so far

You didn't mention a problem with the IPTO as well as M.P.
I would suspect a blocked strainer may be the problem. Depending on the model, the tractor may utilise the same filter for both the hitch lift pump, as well as the Aux. pump(on late models).
The earlier models have a separate strainer that sits beside the lift strainer in the centre housing. The lift (hitch) cover will need to be removed to gain access to the filter. Try cleaning it first before launching into a full blown overhaul.
Evan.

will this work on my 135 are the parts as desribed the same on both tractors thanks because I am planning on doing this
