MW Dyno help

Hello,
So I went to this auction the other day determined to buy a dyno. Well I got one and now I need help. Its a M&W Hydra Guage Dynamometer, model 300 with a serial number 1064. I think it has to be very old, it only goes to 90hp. It didnt come with any charts or a manual. I have looked it all over and it seems to be complete and should work. The oil tank is almost empty and the water cooler coils are exposed. Do any of you know where I can get a manual? What does the little knob do that is on the panel with the guages? Is just CaseIH hy tran oil ok for it, or does it take something special?

You should get a manual as you stated but to quickly answer two concerns, HyTran Ultra will be fine for the oil and the little valve acts as a snubber, turn it in till the needle loses its jumpiness and is smooth acting when you move the load valve. A few minutes and you'll pretty much understand it.

Be aware that the dyno is only accurate at the check points on the tach so don't come back and say your John Deere MT has 75 HP! A dyno can be made say just about anything depending on how it's operated, lol.

A Nomograph is required to calculate HP away from the tach checkpoints, there are some on here who have them and are willing to reproduce them for you. Enjoy your new toy.

I called the guys who sold it and they have the books somewhere. There going to look, but after talking to him, he said this dyno they never used, they got it on a sale a few years back. But he said just put oil in it and it will work. I think I'll call the guy in Iowa and talk to him. Its been a few years since I have used a dyno so it will be a new experience. I just hope I find out its not big enough for my pulling tractor and I'll be real happy course on the other hand I hope my MM "R" has 75 horse! lol

Yes Mel there are some highly experienced pullers on here that still don't know how to properly read a dyno, thanks for posting this info

mEL is Right on the Dyno theres only 540 and maby 620 at PTO Speed if you have the right Dyno to take the reading from Unless you have a M&W Converson Slide Chart then you can get a reading where you want and be accurate!
