My first tire chains

I got tired of getting stuck last year so this year I got dou-link tire chains for the 8N from tirechains.com. Watched the video on how to install - but not having a jack I trusted to lift the rear end like they do in the video caused me to work most of it out myself.

It took a couple hours but I did get them on including the spring tensioners & some bungees on the inside. Took it for a spin on my mostly icy with a dusting snow driveway & I can say one thing --- better get a pillow in addition to my cushion for the seat or risking bruiing some family jewels!

The chains did sem to seat themselves a little bit after some easy cruising arouns --- Now I'm almost looking forward to snow!

I said almost ---

Chains & fluid in the tires -- wanna bet I still find a way to get stuck somewhere?

I just bought my fist set a couple of weeks ago. They should make quite a difference this cleaning the drive this winter.

My tires are not loaded. I installed mine by jacking one side up at a time and letting the air out of the tire. Install the chains and then inflate the tires again. I was able to get them nice and tight without binders.

I put mine on a couple of weeks ago when the first snow came. HINT, you don't have to jack them up to put them on. Lay them on the ground and drive over them.Took me about 45 minutes to put both on. Quick eh.

You"re going to love them! The ride gets a little better with a couple
of inches of snow under them. I put mine on by laying one end over
the top of the tire, tucking the other end under the tire, and driving
forward a few feet, and then hook them up. After I get the other
side on, a little jiggling here and there gets them tight enough. I"ll
be putting mine on Saturday, it might snow here Sunday, so let the
fun begin!

That's how I did mine -- Having no experience with chains I decided to play safe & put on the tensioners since I'll be in Florida most of January & someone else will have to use the tractor to plow our parking lot while I'm gone so I thought I would err on the side of caution in keeeping the chains on tight.

Chains make a huge difference. My Jubilee won't do anything but spin out on a few inches of snow. With the chains, it'll go anywhere.

I'm not good at putting them on. I pull em and tug em and use a fair amount of bungee cord. I get them on, but it isn't pretty.

After several bungies broke, I went Tractor Supply and bought some "cheap" ratchet straps....I got 4 for 10 bucks - 1" wide, would not want to ties a heavy load down, but for keeping tension on the chains it worked well. I cross them at 90 degrees and cut off the extra strap, so I have about 2 foot of lees of strap and the ratchet is somewhere in the middle. I check the tension every now and again and ratchet up a notch when needing too.

Now where were you when I wasn't thinking of that?

I like that far better than bungees on the inside --
