NAA Generator

Just found out my generator is bad on my NAA. My goal is to stay as close to original as I can in my restoration. I've looked on the half dozen or so online parts websites and have not found any generators or parts. Plenty of the 12v conversions.

I don't really want to debate the pros and cons of converting to a 12v system, but would like some direction in finding parts to repair or just replace the generator. If the cost is too expensive, then I will just do the conversion.

I have a 640 with the 12v system, but don't know if the alternator is good or not yet.

Thanks for any input.

GOOGLE "Wilson 92-02-5012".

Your local auto parts store should be able to get you one, or cross it to the brand they sell.

woreout plan will work, too, but in my area I have a good generator and starter repair shop and he can fix just about anything, including this armature about 2 years ago. Keeps it all original,American made and cheaper.

Chances are your local "Auto Electric" shop is not advertising on line, but they are out there. Dealers will not know who they are but your average local independent auto repair can tell you where he is.

If you had a good quality ohm meter that was accurate at low ohm scales and all the wiring was in place you may be able to determine which
is FLD and which is ARM, but the problem is at such little differences it takes a good meter. Often ARM is bigger than FLD but not always. Of
course a look inside will provide the answer.

Often the problem is the VR or wiring or poor grounds but if inside the genny its often simply brush problems

It is bad, as in not charging? Broken?

Was it checked and just not charging? Might open it up and take a look, could be just dirty/stuck brushes.

A good starter/generator shop should be able to fix it or build one from the bone pile. If there is not one
near by, search them out, make some calls.

Whatever the solution, be sure to polarize it.

If you have the original or an old regulator, try to save it. Usually filing the field contacts will fix it.
The originals were much better quality than the new ones.
