National Equipment Registery

Hello Everyone,

A couple of months ago someone posted a post about a place were you could register tractors and other heavy equipment in case they were ever stolen. Well tonight, I was at work and I saw this website address on a Skyjack lift . It is a site were you can register your heavy equipment serial number , model number , etc. , in case it is ever stolen. I looked at the site and it had a picture of a tractor on the home page and under the help page it said that agriculture equipment could be listed also. This site uses HELP TECH ( Heavy Equipment Loss Prevention Technology ) . For a few dollars a year you can register your whole fleet . You can also get stickers to place on your equipment to warn thieves. This site may have been listed back then , I can't remember , if not , then here you go here is you a site were you can list your equipment.

Thank you ,

National Equipment Registery

I don"t have enough equipment to worry about it and the area we live in is pretty safe..... for now. But that is a great site and maybe with any luck someday I will have enough equipment to justify it.

Rest assured law enforcement doesn't use it. For things to have a "hit" one would have to have the entry in NCIC. Trust me when I tell you that the owner of the item is required to provide the serial number for entry. I'm not calling an 800 number to search a database when its done on the national wanted list where I can confirm its original reporting agency and also confirm its still wanted. These 2 things are required, I can not use the other site.

A few years back, my sister also found that law enforcement don't give a rat's azz if your SS# is engraved on a theft recovery, either. Their position apparently is, "YES, that may be your SS# engraved on the item, but we have no way of knowing if you sold it sometime after it was engraved"...therefore, all your SS# on an item proves is that you had an opportunity to engrave your number there, not that you ever actually owned the item.

The problem with SS# is that we have no access to them anymore without doing a criminal history. Those numbers are worthless for us. The best thing to do is engrave your name a date of birth along with the state in something. Again, not only does it take alot of space, it only means it was in your possession at one time. Chances are better for recovery since you can prove doubt in the individual in possession of it. But SS#'s are a bad idea in this day.

Dave, it looks like to me that the NER is like a clearing house for stolen equipment. If your _____ comes up missing, and somewhere else a potential buyer checks the serial number and finds it is listed as stolen on that site, just maybe the potential buyer may call law enforcement and the equipment might be returned to it's rightful owner. It would also be good for the buyer as you may avoid unknowingly buying stolen equipment.
