NATPA- div. 2 split

We heard at Lincoln NATPA was considering a div. 2 top cut class. Isn't that basically div.3? I understand the road wore/ cut arguement but allowing top cuts will just move that arguement to div. 1. My thought is to leave div. 2 as is and if another div. is desired do something with 4 to get some of the tough tractors in there. 2 and 3 have decent numbers but 4 is light at some pulls in certain classes. I also like the idea of allowing some stuff up to maybe 1965, non-turbo for 806's, 4010's, 930's, 1850's I do agree though smoke could be a big problem.

I have always found it strange that you must pull in Division 3 if you have weld on hubs. What advantage are those?

Are you sure about that? At Sigourney Iowa two weeks ago in the 5500# Championship class there was 75 tractors in it. One of them had top cut only tires on it. The rest all had full cuts. The top cut tire tractor won 3rd place out of 75 tractors. (Just missed 2nd.) People get way to worried about how tires are cut. I have a machine and cut tires and I would be the first to tell you that I can make a correctly top cut tire pull just as good a full cut if you know how to cut it. A good cut tire is still a cut tire and will pull no matter if it is top or full cut. Just takes a little more bar on a top cut. Doesn't make any difference if the front of the bar is cut or not. If the leading edge of the bar is sharp and the tire has the right heel angle and profile it is going to work. When I look at all the placings in many association I see many so called division two tractors pulling in division three and placing in the top positions in division three. If association do not want cut tires in there division they should not allow any tire in it with the leading edge that is sharp no matter how they got that way or what kind of cement or blacktop they drove or drug them down. End the big controversy and let all sharp tires pull in the same class. This top cut tire controversy is nothing more than an excuse to ward off some of there competition, but not the good competition as they are going to beat and win there classes weather they have full or just top cut tires. Its been proven many times.

WTW where are you located i am needing to get a set of 15x5.38's cut but i don't know how i want them cut. I know there is not enough tread to top cut.

I agree with WTW. I also cut tires and a good back cut will pull with a good front cut but mostly in loose conditions and only as long as the edge is sharp. The full cuts will pull good longer. To support his point though, if I"m not mistaken Jim Benjamin"s tractor won the KOH in Tunica three years ago against 100+ tractors with top cuts.

I myself would like to see natpa & usap thy to have the same tire sizes for div 2 & super farm classes. I think alot of puller would cross over of place to place alot more.

the people that don't want top cuts scoured the country looking for that perfect set of road worn tires. the ones that want top cuts are still looking. Paul

Our thinking was that if natpa wants another class a 7mph class might be an option for guys that can run a little faster than 3.5 but are not up to open speed, just my thoughts.
