Need a little help

So I have an 830 Case--gas-- that I basicly use as a acreage tractor, moving snow, disking the wife's arena and so fourth. My problem is after it runs for a while sometimes 30-40 minmuets, it really starts to miss and cut out and just barily run, if I play with the choke, I can make it idle but just as soon as I try to move, it basicly dies. I was moving snow this evening and it started to do this, my first though was a little water in the fuel line, but I had put a bottle of heat in the tank this evening, so I am leaning away from that idea. I fought it for about 20 minuets trying to get it out of the middle of my driveway. Finally I was able to get it up the driveway by putting a t-shirt over the in-let side of the carb, basicly restricting the air somewhat. After I got it up to the shop I went in and ate supper, went out about 40 min later and it ran like a top.. Anyone have any ideas on what to check? Also the pipe coming from the intake manifold to the carb, always ices up even during the summer, after it runs for a while it becomes frosty. I have the correct air cleaner on the tractor, Could this be the problem and how can it be solved.. its done it since I have owned the tractor..5-6 years. thanks sorry its so long.

You most likely have a little dirt in the carburetor. Seems like even a tiny spec of dirt in there will make them act up. Start at the sediment bulb making sure its cleean and flowing good. Blow out the fuel line. If that don't work take the carbuetor apart and clean the needle and seat, and make sure all the passages inside are clean. If that don't work, take the carburetor apart and do it again. My 611B has acted exactly like you describe, and its always been a little dirt somewhere in the fuel system. The frost on the carburetor is normal, mine does that too.

One of 2 thing could be happening. #1 the coil is going bad and you get to the point the spark is weak. Or #2 the carb is clogged up. Try opening up the main jet a half turn at a time to the point that if it doesn't help that you can remove it. If it still runs with it out then you have a clogged carb

I do not think the problem is in the carb, or it would not run cold. When it craps out disconnect the fuel line at the carb and see what you get. It should run full flow of the fuel line. If you have a plugged fuel filter it might take about as long as you explained before it runs out of fuel. Feel the coil to see if it is hot. A bad coil will get hot and loose good spark. I had a DC once that had a slab of solder in the fuel tank that would block the fuel line out of the tank. Acted like you explain. If you have full flow at the carb, and good spark then it might be the carb. Good Luck DK

you didnt by any chance put a plastic fuel filter on it did you?i put one on my jd b and once it got warm the heat from the manifold would make the filter collapse on the ends not letting fuel through

ours was doing the same thing, though its diesel. I drained the fuel tank. The tank is all plugged up with rust. So its something you may want to check.

I had a tractor that would crank & run good for a while then die and not crank till it set for a while. It turned out to be the gas cap not venting. It woul form a suction & starve for gas.

I have not added a fuel filter in the line, had thought about it to help the sediment bowl, but after reading this I dont think I will. I was wondering about the ignition system. At one point last night while cranking I did see a pretty good spark over by the dist... When I got it up to the shop though everything was tight. Could the coil be getting hot then not doing its thing? I still dont get why fiddling with the choke would help it to run if the dist was going bad?

You are getting good ideas from everyone. My Case 530 has had a similiar problem. What I did was just slightly turn the main(power) jet screw on the carb and the tractor immediately ran better. I assume that there was dirt or crud partially blocking fuel flow thru the jet.

Also with dampness or blowing snow, both my Cases seem to get moisture inside the distributor. The points get corrosion/scum on them and I usually get a "no-start" but it may also run rough.

It could be the coil is going bad. I would inspect it for a crack or any oil residue. If you see any oil, replace it.

If it has a fuel bowl on the bottom of the tank, take the glass bowl off after you have cut the fuel off. Fill it with B12 chemtool carburetor cleaner and put it back on. Also there is a screen in the fuel bowl area that could be clogging up. You have fuel problem. For some reason the fuel is shutting down. Look for restriction areas. Holler if you need more help.

I have an older tractor. The lining inside the fuel tank was peeling. The trash from this was stopping up the fuel bowl inlet. I had to drain the gas. blow out the tank the best I could. I then put a stocking screen over the inlet of the fuel bowl.

Biggest problem I have had on both of my case tractors is junk getting in the fitting that comes from the tank to the fuel bowl. This can really slow things up and cause the tractor to run erratic. You will need to remove the bowl and fitting to clean it out.

My SC Case used to do this same thing. I fixed it by cleaning out the WHOLE fuel system. Gas tank had crud in it. I also cleaned out crud in all fuel lines and sediment bowl, screens and all fittings. Runs great now.

i have a dc and a 730 gas here boy after reading this i feel better my dc has somelittle something in the tank and she will cut out know the engine sound by heart stop get off unhook line at carb loosten gas cap and blow into line 3 min and runnin again my 730 frosts up all summer long doin hay also halfto run with gas cap loosened as she also will cut out too small world aint it
