Need a shift lever for a Ferguson...

Hi all... I have a Ferguson TO-30, from around 1954 I think, and I broke the shift lever recently. Got it apart, and it"s broken just below the inspection cover. Having trouble finding a replacement. Anybody here have any ideas?

If you don't have a salvage yard close by I would watch ebay and hope someone on the forum lets you know they have an extra one.

They have a shift lever for $39.00 that fits the TO30, FE35 and F40. Look for [b:6a70d66484]OEM Part #891405M1[/b:6a70d66484].

Fix That Ferguson has tons of parts for older Ferguson and Massey tractors and are good people to deal with.

My TO 30 parts book is calling for part # 181 513 M1 for a TO 30 gear shift lever.

May want to check the model numbers again. The part is for the TO-35, FE35 and F40 NOT the TO-30.

Per my books, they and not the same part number.

Being a welder by trade...I would vee it in one half of the way on one side, clamp it down so the weld can't draw it crooked....weld it with low hydrogen 1/8" rod, let it cool....and then, do the same to the other side. Grind off all the sows titties and use it. How did you break it...pounding on it when it was locked in two gears? ohfred

It snapped off just below the cover, and it looks like it fatigued and broke off. I don't remember doing anything out of the ordinary at the time, just shifting. But until I installed a 12 volt conversion, it had been difficult to start for some time. Perhaps the repeated attempts to start it had something to do with it, hard to say. Anyways, thanks for the advice, I've already spoken to a friend who's a welder. He can do it if need be, just thought I'd make an attempt to track down the part first.

Sorry.. But it will fit. We installed one on a TO30 less than 4 months ago.

We did have to use all of the hardware from the broken shifter.

Buy a new one or you can get a used one completely assembled with all of the hardware from Wengers Part #825865M91 for about $55.00 or so.

An OEM Number does not mean that Ferguson made the part. Original Equipment Manufacturer can be anyone's number whom made the part.

For example.. Ferguson did not make Lucas Generators. But you can find the part number listed in a Ferguson Shop Manual. And 99.9 percent of the time time it will be an OEM number from Lucas or whatever part which Ferguson (or any other brand) would use when requesting parts from the manufacturer to go on whatever is rolling down the assembly line at the time.

Another example.. Ford does not make Fan belts for their cars and trucks. But yet they have an OEM part number for it, which is used when contacting the supplier when they need more or need them sent to stock a dealers service center.

They can be welded. I had two shift levers one with a good top half and another with a good bottom half and I cut and welded them together under the dust cover. By welding it there you couldn't tell that it had ever been repaired.
