I have an opportunity to buy a good 450B John Deere Track Loader

the engine is bad in it and I want to find a good engine BEFORE I buy the crawler

does anyone in the PA/NJ area have one for sale?

or can anyone tell me what other equipment, like a compressor ot other that might have the same engine and what a good running take out may cost

thanks

There were several for sale in last weeks Country Folks - Northeastern division (NY, PA, and NJ).
One used, and one rebuilt as I recall. I just the newest edition today in the mail but won't get around to reading it until tomorrow morning.

Depending on how much power you want, you can use a 202, 239, etc. from 450 series crawlers, 480 forklifts, 440 skidders, 2510, 2020, 400 etc. farm and industrial wheel tractors, etc. Some later engines, like used in a few 210 backhoes have the balancing shafts left out and can vibrate a lot.
Also, there are some newer light-weight engines with blocks too thin to use in a crawler for support reasons.

If the engine is bad, how can you tell the rest of the machine is good? Apparently the 450's were notorious for transmission problems and very expensive to fix. I wouldn't want to spend money to get a new engine and then find out something else is wrong that will cost a lot to fix. Just trying to give you a heads up. Dave

I know the guy who owns the crawler

one of his employees was operating it when the engine went bad, so I know it was working ok

Thanks
Dave
