Need help georgeky or Allan

George, Allan,
I have a chance to pick up a super clean 560D with a bad main clutch. It slips when pulled hard.
Narrow front end, 5000 hr barn kept tractor.
Been wanting one of these since I was a kid.
Guy says $4500 and it's mine. What do you think...high, low?
I have used the tractor pulling a sub soiler and it is not a rough beat-up tractor.
Appreciate your help.

Better plan on adding about $500 on to that cost. $4000 sounds more reasonable if the engine, hydraulics and rear end are all good. Good sheet metal is always a plus as well. Fast hitch or not? Hydraulics? Power steering?

Boy, it sure seems a bit high to me. I have passed on a few nice 560's in the $3000 range. For $4500, I'd think it sould be a real nice field ready tractor. (including a good TA)

It's loaded...got the works.
Sheet metal is faded, seat is worn...but not bad.
Engine is not oily and dirty like most...it's real clean.
Tires are all about 5 years old and no cracks or boots. Most likely 80% tread.
Only piece I can see missing is the PTO shield, and he says he has it if he can find it.
I figured I can find one at OEM.

I watched a 560D sell 2 months ago at a consignment sale for 2500. Nice looking, ready to work tractor, with aftermarket widefront, 2 pt hitch. I thought it was cheap enough but at a consignment sale you can't be too sure of what condition the clutch and torque are in. I think too his is a little high but you do know the history of this one.

Boy, I dunno what to tell ya.

The last one I priced "here" was a paint shop queen and the guy wanted 6 grand for it. It had the factory wide front tho.

Narrow front with a weak clutch should cheapen it up. Your call; how bad ya want it? :>)

Nobody's gonna throw rocks at ya for buying a 560 Diesel, that's for darned sure. See if he'll come down $500.

Bill, I don't really know, but it seems a bit high to me. The last 560's I seen sell around here was one nice diesel that brought 1600 bucks, and decent gas for 1250. Keep in mind that IH stuff does not sell as well as others right here. A county or 2 to the north, and it is a better market for them. I would sure try making a lower offer on it if it were me. Have to take condition in to consideration as well. Tires, tin, and so on.

I'm with georgeky on this 5one, seems pretty pricey for one needing work. For what you describe on paint, seat, etc I've never gone over 2500 on one but I'm trying to put a thousand in it and make a thousand on it. Usually sell them in the 4500-4800 range with new paint, new seat, and no obvious mechanical problems. Havent had one in a while, since I got hurt. They dont linger here long at those prices but if I ask over 5000 for them they end up sitting around a while.

I might be wrong ,but were there issues with 560D's
sucking a sleeve down into the crankcase? I seem to recall a couple of them in the IH dealership I worked at in the 70's that did that.One in particular wallowed the block so bad that they couldn't get a sleeve to hold .They painted the outside of the sleeve with liquid weld and aluminum roof coating to get it to seat and wholesaled it .There weren't many sold around here and were pushed hard trying to keep up with JD 4010's.The beginning of the end for IH

Bill: You've got great courage, I wouldn't put those kind of dollars into a 560D, even in perfect shape. Everything about that tractor, came out much improved on the 656, and you can buy those for very little more, and the 656 will hold it's value. Now, you've got to stay with diesel.

Too high I think, at least for around here. I know of one for about 1800, but it has ugly sheet metal. Decent tires though.

I have dad's old 656D Hugh. It started life as a gas, he got an engine out of a 660D I think is is, built it himself and even put a Turbo on it.
Darn thing pulls like no tomorrow, but the PTO is about shot. It slips when we run the feed mixer on with it. I guess the clutch pack is bad. Sure will pull a disk though.
I have an M,SuperM (Louisville),MD, Super MD and a 450D plus the 656D. Some here...some in Indiana. I just always liked the 460U and the 560 row crop. Course when I was coming up all we had were rowcrops except for the 300U.
I don't have to have it...but when pulling the shreder (bushhog to some) I thought a 560 might keep me from getting hit in the back by junk since it is taller.
Course there is that 2955 green tractor I been eyeballing too.
But, you know...Georgeky said they might be cheaper up there...might look around a little next time I go home. Unlike Allan...I don't mind pulling a gooseneck...the old Dodge kinda likes to do work.
