Need help in decision

41 9N Carb needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
*Heavy rust on the inside bowl
*Inlet seat would not come out and had to drill it out
*The seat looks like someone had forced it into the threads and screwed them all up and now would need to be tapped (if possible to maintain the seat thread diameter)
*Float has slight dent on one lobe and looks like seal along the bottom may go.
Is this worth sending to (JB?) to have him rebuild it, or will I have enough invested to just get a whole new one?
I am assuming that by the time I get the kit ($45) and the new float ($20) the retapping of the seat (if possible assuming $25) plus the labor and shipping, it may be a toss up to just order a new one and have spare parts.

Thoughts??

The M-S carb is a pretty rugged piece of equipment. Rust in the fuel bowl, dented float, etc are not a big deal. If you don't want to tackle the problem yourself(and it sounds like you don't) send it to Gary (GB in MT). He has lots of time on his hands (grin) and he would probably rebuild it for you and test it on his 9N for less than a new carb. (Last time I looked, a rebuilt carb is about $200. Reproductions are about the same.) If it's not rebuildable, he'll tell you.

Gary in MT... How can I get your shipping info to look at this carb and tell me what I need?

Please send to my email

Gonna try to save ya some $$'s here.
I'm giving you my email addy... [email protected]
Send me an email and inclose, a close-up picture of the inside of the carb, showing me the bowl and also the float seat, where you drilled it out.
I also want a detailed list of everything you have done to this carb. to date.
If the pic. is good enough, I can tell you more by re-turn email, as to an estimate for fixing it.
Depends on how good a job you did on the drill-out as to whether or not I can fix it. I'm wishing you had not done that, before asking, but what the heck.....it's your carb.
Send me an email, and I'll give ya an answer. (YES or NO) on the fix.
If you will do this, it will save you the $10.50 shipping!!!

HTH
