NEED HELP!!

HEY GUYS,

I NEED SOME HELP. AFTER 8 YEARS OR SO MY JD A HAS COME ALIVE. SORTA. I CLEANED OUT THE CARBUERATOR DRAINED OUT THE OLD GAS, INSTALLED A NEW FUEL BOWL WITH A HIGH RISE TUBE (COULD NOT GET THE TANK CLEANED OUT), INSTALLED AN IN-LINE FILTER, PUT ON NEW SPARK PLUG WIRES, CLEANED THE PLUGS UP, AND HAD TO BYPASS THE IGNITION SWITCH TO GET 12 VOLTS TO THE MAG. LOW AND BEHOLD, IT STARTED. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SOUND!
I LET IT RUN FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. A FRIEND OF MINE CAME OVER TO PLOW MY DRIVE SINCE WE GOT MORE SNOW AND HE WAS LISTENING TO IT. IT LATER STARTING SOUNDING LIKE IT WAS HITTING ON ONE CYLINDER THEN IT DIED. I LOOKED IN THE FUEL TANK AND IT APPEARED TO BE EMPTY. MY FRIEND GAVE ME 5 GALLONS OF FUEL AND I PUT IT IN. THE TRACTOR STARTED AGAIN AND I WENT TO MOVE IT FROM THE SHED TO THE LOWER SHOP TO FINISH AIRING UP THE TIRES. WHEN I GOT THERE IT DIED AGAIN. NOW IT WONT START. IT HAS GOOD SPARK AND THE PLUGS SEEM TO BE DAMP WITH SOME FUEL, I JUST DON"T KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE.
I"M NOT AN EXPERT ON JD CARB ADJUSTMENT SO I USED THE 1 AND A HALF TURNS OUT RULE OF THUMB ON THE NEEDLES. IS THERE MAYBE A PIECE OF VARNISH STILL PLUGGING UP A PASSAGE? IT HAS A DLTX-71 CARB ON IT. DO THEY MAKE ANY KIND OF SOLVENT YOU CAN PUT IN THE TANK TO DISSOLVE THE VARNISH? THE OLD GIRL IS OUTDOORS NOW SO I NEED TO GET THIS FIXED QUICKLY.

On engines with a fuel pump thoes in-line fuel filters (not the sediment bowl) may restrict the fuel flow. Remove it and see what happens. Armand
 
you need to remove the carb to clean it. do a search on jdhpubs that pat has on here occasionly and read his section on carbs. his are for h's but its still applies to yours.
 
OPPS!!!!! My earlier post about in-line fuelfilter should read that WITHOUT a fuel pump in-line fuel filters MAY RESTRICT fuel flow and should not be used. They work better with a fuel pump. Armand
 
Since your plugs are damp try NEW ones as since they get wet they never seem to come back out of it.
 
You mentioned "getting 12 Volts to the mag". Since you say it"s a 1950 A, I believe you would have a distributor and not a mag. If it really is a mag, you don"t need 12 V connected to the mag.
