Need some help to identify the model.

I brought my grandfather's tractor home to save it from the and have had some issues trying to identify it. The stick on the engine cover lists it as a Super AV and what I gather from the serial number is that it's a 1949 model. It appears that the front axle may be the high crop version? The wheels are not the high crop size. It's believed that my grandfather didn't buy the tractor new. Any and all help is appreciated.

It is a Super AV & looks to have the wrong tires on the back. It should be set up with either 9.00x36 or 10.00x36 wheels & tires. Think the rims had solid cast centers too.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I figured the tires were wrong, which was pretty much the extent of what I knew. On the serial number plate, the model was an FAA which I read was a Super A. When I look at the post, I can't see the pictures I added, but they must be there since you saw the rear wheel.

Looks to me like a Super A with a hood that migrated off of an AV. I don't see anything else high clearance on the tractor.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I wasn't sure how to honestly tell them apart from apart aside from the serial number plate and the wheel size. Especially since the model number portion could possibly be partially wiped away since the model number isn't stamped like the serial number and rpm are.

I used to have a super AV and it had a triangular front axle instead of the round and also had a support going to the bell housing.

I thought that too initially but if you look close the front wheels are 15" not 19" like the AV's would have.

It just looks like it's running uphill because of the way the hood and grille are laid on the tractor. Just your standard run of the mill every day ordinary 1949 Super A.

Their will be a number stamped on a flat spot just below the front spark plug. The letters and number are probably covered with years of grease and oil and maybe several coats of paint. Clean it real good and tell us what you find there.

At first glance, I thought the spindles on the front were the longer ones. Going by the internet pics, I see now that it was a larger rim used to lift up the front.

my guess is that at some point, it needed new tires and/or rims, and the owner figured that he could buy junkyard wheels for a standard A for a lot less than the cost of 40" tires, and be happy using it as is.

I think it is AV from looking at the steering arm location to the top of the tires. Imagine the rake it would have if the front tires were replaced. Jim

Thanks for all the replies. The tractor is currently at my parents house, so I don't get to see it every night. I looked for the number on the block and think I may have found where it would be, just need to clean it off since the numbers weren't visible. I do have another question in the meantime though. The current front tires are obviously destroyed, but it looks like the size on the front is a 4.00-15, which I understand the 5.00-15 would be the appropriate size. Since I need to get front tires so I can roll it in and out, I would appreciate some clarity on what the size should be. Thanks again in advance.

Nothing about that is super AV. Short front spindles, round front axle. .......just a wrong decal
