Needs Choke

Ok so 52 8N 12v will run fine with the choke all the way out (just at an idle) it will try and die if you give it any fuel. I took the carb apart and cleaned it today. New plugs, wires distrubuter cap, points, (true 12v) Coil. This is the original topic that I posted

Since that topic I put back in the old condencer and also replaced the coil, and it still needs the choke to run. Any Ideas?

How did you clean your carb?

A lot of the time on these carbs, you will need an air compressor, and a rubber tipped blow gun, to get all of the orifices, and passages open, clean.

You could also have a vacuum leak on the manifold.

Took the carb completely apart and used lots of carb cleaner and also soaked it in gas. I did spray some carb cleaner around the intake after it was running and no change there as well

Drew.......WHY did you replace yer new 12v roundcan ignition coil??? Roundcan ignition coils are generally bullet-proof. Unfortunately, the mysterious condenser is NOT bulletproof and can be bad right outta the box. Yer old condenser is probably good.

Iff'n you haffta "choke" yer engine to keep it running at idle, guess what??? Yer side-pointing idlemix is TOO LEAN. Remember, yer side-pointing idlemix is BASSACKWARDS; out for lean, IN for ENRICH. Always adjust yer side-pointing idlemix for maximum idle speed, NOT SMOOTHEST idle, max idle rpms. Understand???

The last time I adjusted my eazy starting 6v 52-8N carb; my down pointing mainjet was 2-turns and my side-pointing idlemix was 1/4-turn and my idlespeed was a SLOOOooow 435rpms. It can be done. Yours should be similar. ......Dell

Hey...you know that there stuff that collects on the insides of the bowl? That sorta whiteish stuff. You still have to take your fingernail and scrape all that chalkie look'N stuff off. Better yet plan on a real internal and, I say an external poishing job via an "ultra sonic, not sub-sonic" cleaner machine. The parts will come out really clean plus might as well trow in that old diamond ring while you are at it.

My final day of clean'N a simple BRIGGS carb.
Then go from there!!!!!!!!! Good as NEW!

Ok update on things it runs for about 15 seconds, and then will need to run with the choke all the way out and then will run for quite some time. It will then pretty much fire right back up after it dies

LOOK at the flow.

I recently worked on a IHC H for a friend with very similiar symptoms. They worked the carb/ fuel system angle an gave up. I repeated most of what they did, then switched to the ignition system. Problem was a defective condenser. Might be worth trying another one.

Ok well I went ahead and replaced the point and condencer and still runs only with the choke full out. I will start on the carburator next week, I guess

Da%it, Drew! Did you EVER pull the carb drain plug from the bottom of the carb and check to see if the flow was enough to fill a pint container within 5 minutes or less? I have asked you about this several times & it appears that you have never done the test, but rather off chasing other ghosts. Now, maybe flow isn't your problem, but it is so quick to check & eliminate or verify that I don't understand why you have not done the check??? At least tell me to p!$$ off so I won't keeps asking, or go do it!
Waiting for a response, with bated breath.

Yah it seemed fine but It was still my problem. It didnt have enough fuel in the tank. I had been watching it to run it down and clean out the tank and there just was not enough fuel in there to let gravity work its magic. there was just about a gallon left but it didnt like that. I got everything cleaned up and fuel back to the top and she runs just fine. The condencer was bad, but I did the fuel check at the same time and it looked good which is why I didnt think to do it again. Oh well all is good again.

Glad you got it going & thanks for giving all of us feed back ...we do like to see that. :)

And thank you guys for the help I am dumb and should have checked the fuel flow again but I had when it first started messing up, The bad condencer was the problem first then the fuel got low from doing the testing that I needed and then it became a problem. (also a bad copper ground strip in the distributer was bad, fixed it with a one piece 16g wire as someone recominded) Oh well live and learn
