Local dealer is having open house and cookout tomorrow to show off the new 8N Boomer. He has three, two with loaders. He also has a restored 51 or 52 8N for showing. We can test drive each, along with other NH tractors, but won't be able to drive the old N.

I am trying to get an accurate selling price.

The ONLY reason that I would dissagree is that it will be well over $5000.

I guess I'd be in the "This is going to be interesting" column. At an alleged price of $25K to $30K...it will fade quickly. Maybe this is the Delorean for the tractor crowd?

The price tag is WAY over the top, IMHO. Here's my logic...for that price I can buy, ready made, about 4 completely restored REAL 8N's. Every year, they'll probably increase in value. They're not made of plastic. In 50 years, they'll still be here....in 50 years, the Boomer will have had many years in the landfill.

Boomer at 50HP??? Hmmmm...my bet is that I could take my 50HP Minneapolis Moline and drag the "50HP" Boomer sideways through my fields. That thing can't possibly put the power into the ground that yesterday's 50HP tractor could...not even close!

Nah...sorry...a nice nostalgic trick, yes. A continuance of the 8N legacy?...ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I don't have the same point of view you have, nnalert. I believe the old N's take a lot of maintenance by a lot of "experienced" people and that maintenance helps keep them going..along with sites like this to supply the parts. Why do you think a Boomer would not last as long with the same type of support? Obviously, yuppies buying them for fun probably won't have the same skill sets as you do to keep them in tip top shape, but I have a "plastic Kubota" with several thousand hours and it runs like new and I expect it to outlive my son. Of course, keeping it running right takes a lot less time than my 8N mutt but it does many thing my N can't do, and I am certain the Boomer N will do things non of my 3 tractors can do.

It may be pricey, but it would sure look good in my collection.

I'm with Jim on this one. I have a restored 2N and a NewHolland TC 30. When I want to feel nostalgic I will take out the old 2N, But when real work needs to be done I use the TC 30. Live hyd. and live power are too hard to live without.
There is no reason why the New Holand will not be around in 60 years iff it gets the proper care.

Don't get me wrong...it's a beautiful machine....I just don't see it as anything more than a Delorean.

That said...years ago I predicted that Ford would bail on it's terrible design (the Mustang) after a year. I also thought the Beatles wouldn't sell a second album!

I ended up being a Beatles fan and owning a new '69 Mach I CobraJet Mustang.

In terms of N's needing a "lot" of maint...I've had the opposite experience with my Jubilee.

I think they may be a nice tractor but for the price I've heard they should be. I don't see the longevity in those that we have with our old iron that still works so well and is easy to fix when it don't. In my experience with old Ford tractors they work great for a long time with nothing but normal maintenance if you take the time to refurbish them halfway decent.
