I recently bought a ford 9n. I was trying to assertain the year but am a bit confused by what i found. The seriel # is 9n274583 on the engine. does this make the engine a 1950 and the rest of the tractor a 9n? thanks in advance for your help..

With your tractor having the serial# you listed, it's actually a late '46 or early '47 2N. Check tractor data.com for Ford 2N and at bottom of page serial #s will be listed according to production years.

Congratulations on your tractor. According to the table of serial numbers found on the left side of the screen at least the engine was produced sometimes in 1947 and it normally would be a 2N model. O course this could be a transplanted engine and the rest of the tractor could be a different vintage. All 2N, 9N came with a 3 speed(forward) tranny & reverse. They also did NOT have position control on the hydraulics. The 8N on the other hand had a 4 speed forward and had position control. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, it seems to make a little more sense as it does have 2n on the rear axle housings. Im sure ill have alot more questions real soon as the tractor is partially a basket case.

Thanks joe im pretty excited about it. My daughter already named it Thumper so i better get her runnin...Thanks again, Ill try to post a picture later

Ditto what the others said.. all 9n/2n SN's start with 9n. Check date codes on the axles to se if they jive with the eng sn date.. if they are within a month or so.. it is probably correct.. etc.
