My sister acquired a non running 1940 (by serial number) tractor. Can you guess who has been volunteered to fix it? The carb was missing until one was found in a box with a good protective coating of rust. There isn't an identifier tag on it. The only markings are the Marvel Schebler stamp and a large capital 'G' stamped in the side of the cast iron top. I will need a rebuild kit, I have no clue which one. Is there a 'standard' carb for the 9N? It has lots of loose wires on it but I already found a wiring diagram posted by oneofeach, thank you.

Hi SparepartsTN, 9n, and 2n, and early 8n, came with Tsx 33 carb. Ford settled on Tsx 241-B for later 8ns.( Tsx241 came first, then Tsx 241-A.)
Tsx 33 on the left has no brass screw, the later Tsx 241-B has one.

My suggestion would be to measure the jets, and leave them alone if sizes are like these. Its easy to twist the slot and bugger em up. And buy parts separately when needed. (Kits for Tsx 241-B will fit TSX 33.)

Thank you soaked. The carb I have is different.

(main topic) if you ask me the carb looks to be frankenstiened outta a newer one and an older one. could mean something may be salvageable in there for parts, never know till you open er up. As for carb kits (soaked has got your back for now) heck you can even buy them right on this site, but whatever you do please don't amazon it, 9 times outta 10 amazon stuff doesn't work on these old beasts.. its why I call It "Scamazon"

(advice) as for non runner after carb is re installed and cleaned or if need be rebuilt I recommend checking the distributor and spark plugs next. 6 times outta 10 you got old spark plugs that are wore. while plugs are out verifying compression ain't a bad idea either, (if you have a tester on hand)

(side topic) If your sister got a true 1940 9N with a solid cast aluminium dash tell her shes lucky. how to tell if its aluminium is to grab the nearest magnet, it will not stick to aluminium, if it sticks its cast iron. most of em' look all cracked and broke like mine by now if they aren't taken care of. the aluminium dashes are quite sought after especially a good one.

best of luck :)

.The tractor is 14 miles away, I will be going over with a lot of test and associated tools next week, I think. It was buried under a bunch of stuff that she dragged out that is on the way to the dump. I will get a better look at it when I get there again. I managed to get the serial number and the rusty carb when I was there last. Thanks for the help and advice guys, I will post more information when it is available.
