New rear tires???

I have a tire question for everybody? What rear tires do you have and what you prefer. I have to replace the left rear tire on my grandfathers 52 8n. Its a firestone and is probably older than me(42yrs). Its had almost no tread as far back as I can remember, and has always had chains on both rears. The right side is a goodyear and I think he put it on when I was around 10 or 12. So I fiqured to get a set, the 8n deserves it. I have recently been using Gramp"s tractor for my business more and more with all the snow this past year, shes held her own with my Cat"s and my trucks. I use her for plowing, bushogging, site grading, and for moving equipment trailers around the yard, and of course parades. Almost sixty years old still runs when the new equipment cost me a fortune to keep running. So the original question of rear tires which are the the one you prefer or look the best, I dont care about price she"s worth it.

10-28 is the old tire size if original. 11.2-28 is what you will see now as the new size.

If I was going to buy 2 new tires.. i'd get a size larger.. the 12.4-28.. etc.. IMHO.. the look nicer.. though wil be a tad more experience.

The added weight would help and they probly have better traction. Chains may not fit tho. HTH

I just replaced my tires last fall and I put 11.2X28's on my 8N. They're Firestones and have 23 degree ag bars. They look great and have excellent traction. Need to get 'em filled yet though. It doesn't want to pull the 14" 2X Dearborn without the added weight.

I replaced mine with 11.2x28 CO-OP Agri Force, USA, from a local dealer.
My first choice was Firestone with 23 * ag bars also USA, but more than I could spend at the time.
I have to admit the larger tire looks good but I was concerned about the increased speed the larger tire would add. This may not be a problem for your 8N.
I loaded them with WW Fluid instead of the CA Cl I had in the old tires.
I used it for a season without ballast but just didn't feel right without it.

I run 11.2x28's on my 9N and 2N,
and 12.4x28's on my 8N's and NAA
chains will fit on the 12.4's, but they must be tight, if your rears are in.
I use the lever style chain binders from my trailer,
to really cinch them down tight, before I bolt/clamp
them together.
Like others, I fill any tire that isn't loaded already with WW fluid.

Ya know I gotta love my grandfather. He was a frugal man, not a penny pincher. I've always thought the reason the 8n leaned was the new tire on one side and the worn tire on the other. Always worked great when plowing, but here's the rub the one on the right is 12x28 and the left is 11x28. I asked my dad about it last nite, he just shrugged and said he probably got a good deal on the larger tire. I walked back and forth three times to see if I was seeing things last nite. Nope different sizes. Brought back memories of Gramps. Made me smile and shake my head I wish I could ask him the story behind the tires. He was a great story teller about the "Good Old Days".

The 11x28 converts to a 12.4x28. The only advantage of using a 13.6x28 is looks. You are probably going to have the replacement tires on for many years, so buy a major brand, either Goodyear or Firestone. The most important factor is how long the casing will hold up, because you probably won't wear them out. The two majors have a much more durable casing. Avoid anything imported from China.
