new temp gauge

After searching for a mechanical temp gauge and finding one with the right thread I just got it installed. It seems that the the threads are correct, but it does not seem to seat properly and drips slowly. Can anybody tell me of a product that I can apply to the threads to seal the leak? I was thinking plumbers dope but wasnt sure if it would tolerate the heat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kyle
